The highway from Tete Jaune Cache to Kamloops can be a little treacherous, but I was in Valemount a few weeks ago, and the snow situation didn't seem too bad then, at least on that portion of the road.

I've made the drive a few times, It's an easy drive. 9 hours sounds about right, as we usually stay about an hour this side of Kamloops. If I remember right it takes about 8 hours, I think with stopping for lunch in Jasper and also gaining an hour crossing the time zone.

Heres a bit of advice:
Stay in Kamloops. Never look back.

If I was him, the minute I left town, I'd hit a car wash and clean all the Edmonton off my ride.

8 hours. Anything more and you're doing it wrong. Not including letting the wife and kids have a rest stop while you complain about all the trucks you're going to have to pass AGAIN.

Went there the weekend before last. Takes about 7.5 hours with a couple stops for gas and food if just me is driving. Takes 8 if the wife is with me and cries at me for driving too fast. Up to 8.5 if I have my dogs and I take them for a couple walks. I usually stop in Hinton and Valemount for pitstops, Hinton is the last place you can get something healthier like a Tim Hortons sandwich to eat...after that it's a lot of nothing. Roads were good, slow part is through the park, the rest moves pretty good though.
Came accross a situation last year where I was driving a cube van and a semi rolled half way between Blue River and Valemount which is basically half way between two towns in the middle of nowhere. Unfortunately the cube van couldn't make it around and I got turned back to Valemount for the night. It's a pretty drive though and usually not too much traffic.

Driving Edmonton to Kamloops? Kamloops would be mighty upset at you for taking Edmonton to them.

Blue River is where we usually stay on our way out to the island. it's cheap. quiet, and has a little lake for kids to go swimming in.
just in case anyone was interested.

Well in fairness to Edmonton...the phrase good paying job doesn't really exist in Kamloops.

But in fairness to Kamloops, the word 'deodorant' doesn't really exist in Edmonton.

But we've got Axe body spray and a tree hanging from the rear view in the El Camino.
