Voter confusion, website controversies unsettles Alberta election.
Voter confusion, website controversies unsettles Alberta election
Tony SeskusCalgary Herald
Monday, March 03, 2008
CALGARY - A low-key Alberta election campaign gave way to voting day controversy and confusion Monday as political party websites crashed and voters struggled to find their polling stations.
The Wildrose Alliance said it was trying to track down who was responsible for five computer addresses which blitzed its website 100,000 times in 24 hours, making the website difficult to access.
"Clearly there's an effort afoot by somebody or some group - and we're certainly not pointing blame at anybody - but certainly there's an effort afoot to cause harm to our website," said Joshua Baba, director of communications for the party.
Alberta Liberals executive director Kieran Leblanc said "mischief" by its political rivals could be responsible for its website crashing for much of the day.
"It's a common political tactic to inundate your political opponents' website to make it crash," she said.
There were also problems at Elections Alberta.

Well, obviously the Liberals are responsible for flooding the Wildrose website, and then they crashed their own website to make themselves look like victims...

BTW I saw a guy destroying signs at 11:10 PM last night on 10 St NW on Confederation park. Caucasian male, 5'10 with white/gray hair stocky build driving a white early 1990s ford Taurus. I slowed down while he was hacking a sign and flashed my camera phone at him. At which point he dove into his car and sped away pretty fast. It was kinda funny actually.

It was hard for voters like me that like to consult the web at the very last possible moment in order to make up our sheep-like, easily influenced minds. I had to go read the Sun to know what to do - THE SUN!!!!
I may never feel clean again.
EDIT: I wrote in an Obama vote.

Reason: Your search for a "reason" for everything is futile. All is entropy and meaninglessness, might as well get used to it.

What kind of deranged person goes out at night and destroys election signs? I realize some people take this a little more seriously than others but that is just plain weird.
I destroyed an election sign once. I was 9 and I wanted to use the signpost for a sword fight -- I lost the sword fight and got a sliver for my troubles. That was the last time.

CBC has a great flash site that gives complete coverage.
Looks like the NDP are on the board ahead of the Libs - but they Libs have some leads in Calgary that they will more than likely win.

Is this Alberta, or Cuba?
From Bill Maher last Friday:
Odenkirk: Rauls' message resonated particularly well with women, where he got 99% of the vote. Also, single men under 35, there, he got 99% of the vote. And he was always favored among seniors where he got 99% of the vote. . . We are projecting the Latino vote at somewhere around . . . 99%.

Maybe the WRAP website was taken down after all those CPers followed the links in FirstLady's signature?
And it would seem fotze might be in my riding. No wonder property values are going down in my neighborhood.

LOL..."Voters struggled to find Polling Stations."
There is an Alberta Eletion website. That is where I went, and it was the first thing that came up on Google. I found my polling station all in about 5 seconds, and a 5:30 too, during the start of the peak voting time.
I think some parties are just crying foul over little things. Too bad the PC's website didn't crash though....hmmmmm?
