you are in a dream. Often happens in REM sleep.
Just curious how many people are able to do this.
This happen to me quite often when I was younger but it rarely happens anymore.
When it does happens to me I can alter the course of the dream but when I try to force it too much I start to wake from the dream.
For those that can lucid dream how much can you control your dreams?
Here is a FAQ

Sometimes I am able to do this, but often enough the dream spins out of my control. It must be like the Force or something.

I'm a big dreamer too, normally mine get very vivid and feel real. But I think I have been able to control what happens on an occasional basis.
Or if I have a kind of wierd/scary dream I can wake myself up.

Interesting. I took a intro coarse in pshycology last year, and found it interesting - would have liked it more if I didn't completely botch it.
As for the initial question, I'm actually insomnic thus I feel lucid dreaming for... well basically the last 4 months anyways. Stupid school!

I was able to five years ago when I was on a strict sleeping schedule, up at 6am every morning or something like that. I was able to drink a bottle of Coke before bed and fall right to sleep.
I still remember some of the dreams, flying was really really REALLY cool. Knowing you're in a dream you also don't have to be aware of the other people, as they don't really exist, if you wanna tell your best friend to "go to die and go to hell" without being sarcastic you could
Now I struggle to remember my dreams, I think sleeping pattern must have alot to do with it.

I've heard some say that you have dreams every night, but personally I have to question that. I honestly can't remember the last time I had a dream. If you do have them, shouldn't you be able to remember them? In any event, I never remember what I dreamt about (if I actually did dream) so I guess it doesn't really matter. Could this not be compared to the "if a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it does it make a sound?"

What was the gist of the paper you wrote a couple of years ago?

I dream rarely, like maybe 3 times a month, but when I do I can easily control them. But the one thing I hate is whenever I'm getting the million dollars or whatver it is I always get woken up or wake up like exactly 2 miliseconds before. I think it could also have to do with a schedule because my dreams are always during the week when I have to get up at 6:30 and they always end at 6:30. And this haoppens every single time.

I'm the same way, I can't control the dreams, but when something cool is about to happen, I wake up two seconds before it takes place. It's a real p*ssoff.
The way I've learned to curb being so upset is by making a 2003-2004 Western Conference Champions flag the first thing I see when I open my eyes

Is it the last thing you see when you fall asleep too? Do you lie there wishing the tape gives out?
I find that I can control my dreams to an extent (I can control what I do in them, but not what the other people in it do), and I too wake up just before something awesome/really bad happens

I think it's a proven fact that you dream multiple times every night. You just don't remember them. I thought people would go "crazy" if they didn't dream or was that a Star Trek episode. :P
I have never had a flying dream but I have had falling dreams. Of course I always wake up before I land.
When I was a kid I use to dream that I was at school (scary) and I thought to myself I don't remember how I got there so I knew it was a dream. In order to wake up I used to go asleep in the dream itself.

last thing I see is darkness, but I have had dreams that the Flames won in OT game 6, and dreaming being there, but ever think back and ask yourself "how did I not know that was a dream?" I mean I wasn't in the seat I was in at the Dome, I was in the upper bowl, probably section 27 of Centre 200, but they had Halifax Metro Centre-esque skyboxes, but the lower bowl looked like the Dome's. I was with my buddies that I go to Eagles games with. Really, I should have known.
I used to wake up just before hitting the ground in dreams... now I hit the ground, but I haven't had a falling dream in ages (that I remember).
I also have a book that tells you what your dreams mean, very interesting actually.

Okay maybe I'm a prevert but if I could master this lucid dreaming thing I'd do very different things in my dreams than get a million dollars or tell my friends to go to hell.

Neat site.
If I hadn't experienced lucid dreaming, and hadn't experienced things like the lucid dream dissolving when I tried to exert too much control I guarantee that I'd say the whole thing was a load of crap.
But... since I can attest that some of the stuff on the site is legit, maybe it all is?

I have lucid dreams every once in a while. I had one recently actually. I can't remember exactly what I was dreaming about but suddenly in my dream I realized that I was dreaming so I started making things happen. It's always fun when that happens.
I don't know how to make it happen though.

You either have very good or very poor sleep progresson then. Normal sleep patterns will have you progress from stage 1,2,3,4 then REM then 4,3,2,1 back and forth about 4 times a night, if you wake up before exiting stage 4 or 3 then you can remember your dreams.

I remember my dreams almost every night. I have lucid dreams about once every month or two on average and they rule. You can fly, have multiple women, rob banks -the sky is the limit. What sucks is when you can in a scrap and you try and wallop the guy but your punches go into bullet time and do no damage. I know someone else on here has had that happen to them.
