Default Beckham coming to Edmonton?

From the Edmonton Journal

Bend It for Edmonton

Who would have thunk it! I am stoked about this one. To think that part of my US vacation was going to LA to see the Galaxy at the World Series of Football and now he will be playing in my back yard! This will definitely be an event for me and my family. Yeah Baby!

That's pretty cool.

I love how typically Edmonton the news story is. He basically implies Google is going to see a huge jump in searches and results of Beckham because of this...Right.

Kinda cold for soccer in late April early May...Won't be much warmer than freezing.

Didn't Beckham get hurt and not even play when they did this in Vancouver?

In an attempt to globalize soccer even more Beckham says he is excited about his first game in Siberia.

Meh. Color me unimpressed. Of course, I've seen Beckham play on numerous occasions for Man Utd so that probably tempers my opinion of this. Beckham, while an excellent dead ball specialist, is nothing special in the rest of the game. You hardly notice him actually for the most part. He has a superb hype machine behind him though. (My how skeptical I am!)

I guess it would be kind of cool for anyone else, who has yet to see him play, to see this. Don't want to come across as a total grump about this.

Anything positive that will increase the interest in Soccer in this country is welcome IMO. Sure Becks comes with a ton of hype, but that is badly needed in North America.

True enough.

My anti-anything Man U (no matter how long ago it was) shines through at times!

Too bad the Aviators, err Edmonton FC aren't still in the USL.. Kinda lame that the Whitecaps have to be the other team.

I dont follow MLS for the obvious reasons, but in a clash of LA Galaxy vs. Whitecaps, isnt that kind of like an English Championship team (one level below EPL) vs. a First Division team (two levels below EPL)?

MLS vs. USL? Shouldnt this be a walk in the park for the Galaxy?

We should start bets on how long Becks will play (20 min).

^^ I'd say that's a fair assertion.

Beckham played 71 (I think) at BC Place, and had one free kick that missed the net and that was pretty much it.

I think he's contractually obligated to play at least half the game.

Who cares? I'd rather watch Bury vs. Doncaster live on Sky3, it is a much higher level of competition.

IIRC they pushed the game back because he couldn't play on the original date due to injury.
