itunes store now available!

Just wanted to let everyone who is interested know that the itunes music store is available to us Canucks as of today.....download away!!

At $0.99CAD songs are cheaper here than they are in the US too.

pretty poor selection though. Itunes is great if you want pop and top 40 stuff, but if you want anything remotely indie, its pretty sparse.

Yeah, i'll make sure to sign up... NOT. If i'm paying for music I want something that exists, like a CD... not a computer file.

I'll never understand why someone would spend money on iTunes.

Well......since we are all different......I'd rather have my Mac hooked up to my surround sound stereo system, with all the INDIVIDUAL songas I like downloaded to my computer and playing from there. No extra cost for a 5-disc changer, no programming of said changer to only play the songs I like, no countless stacks of CD's, no paying $17.99 for a CD to get 4 or 5 songs i like......shall I continue?

The pros far outweigh the cons in my opinion. Just my 2 cents though.

What's really weak is that the US iTunes store has The Weakerthans (alternative rock band from Winnipeg) but the Canadian store doesn't. I'm sure this is true for many other small-time Canadian bands too. You'd think they would be on the .ca store and not the American one, not the other way around.

I'm sure a lot of people find themselves buying a cd for only one song. It's nice to have a service where you can download that one song. For the same amout of money you'd pay for a new cd, you can create one where you can listen to song 1 through 15 without skipping.

Well then you are still paying $17.99 for 4 or 5 songs that you like on CD. Instead of paying $4-5 for the songs, $10 for a pack of CD-R's.

So that is $14.00 - $15.00 compared to $17.99. Not taking into accont the # of CD-Rs you get for $10. Basically you get all the songs you want/like, and spend less than going out and buying the actual CD's.

I haven't bought a CD in almost 5 years... My entire point is that if I ever spend money on music in the future, i'll be buying a hard copy... not a data file.

Because paying for it gives you the guarantee that you are getting what you are looking for. No more getting wrong songs, viruses, spyware...etc. $0.99 isn't all that much money, and like others have said, it beats paying full price for an entire CD of songs you don't like.

I haven't bought music in years but I always support a band when they come to town to play. I feel like I'm supporting music in the more traditional sense, and I don't believe that mainstream musicians need or deserve the thousands-millions of dollars they get and the record companies certainly don't deserve it.

Yeah anybody who wants to support a band, not rip them off is a chump...that makes a lot of sense. I don't buy music but I am not going to call the people that do chumps.

I should have been more clear. Whenever a band comes through town that I've downloaded one of their cds I go see them. Provided that the the cd doesn't suck and that I wouldn't have bought it/wasted my money on it in the first place.

My way of supporting them is buying a ticket to see them. I will usually spend about $300 a year on concert tickets so I'm not being cheap, just realizing that paying for cds is largely superfluous in this day and age. The band also sees more of that ticket money as a percentage than a cd sale and it rewards the bands who aren't too lazy to go on tour and come to my town.

I guess that a) I'm a chump, B)I don't know how to use the Internet eh? :wacko:

For me, sometimes I can't afford to spend the $40+(or whatever) and sometimes the time, depending on who/when the concert is, so I'll support the bands by buying the $10 album on iTunes or Puretracks, or the $.99 song instead. I don't give 2 craps if my money goes to the record companies, because I know that some of it will still go to the artists I like.
