So, wana get into stocks, as a hobby.

Can i do it all online?

Wana be able to go through listings and the prices and just buy them.

I went to the TSX site, but can't figure out where to buy stocks.

Can some help me with a quick guide.

Thanks

You need to do it through a brokerage of some sort. Most banks have something like TD's Waterhouse.

Get some advice before you do anything though. Not sure approaching it as a hobby is a smart move. Unless you've got cash to burn.

Yeah I believe they have an online investment service. You should talk to your bank about what is required to get set up.

It must be easy, tons of people made lots of money for the past 5 years in a booming economy!!1

Keep in mind, you can't just buy and sell freely, there are fees per every transaction.

The people that lose all there moeny are the ones that sink everything into one company. Many smart investors invest through multiple companies. I also invest through people my father has used for the past 10 years. You need to surround yourself around good people that is the key.

You may lose money but chances are you will come out ahead.

I've turned 5G's into 50g's before when a stock has went from 20cents to 2bucks. I have also lost 5g's as well, but I'm well ahead because most of my stocks come out ahead.

Plus for your investment portfolio you don't always want to show your making money once in a while it is good to show capital losses.

I don't disagree with your thought here. But that is why there are mutual funds. Most people don't have the knowledge, skill and time to research companies adequately to complete this process. They also don't have enough money to diversify properly...let alone the emotional detachment that this takes. Most investors in Alberta are diversified because they are in oil AND gas!

You also have to keep in mind that everyone looks like a genius over the past four years. A good bear market and a lot of DIYers start to see the value of professional management/advice.
