Nice, get him out of the east and outta the Raps way.
I like this arms race, Spurs will surely make a move now, but they're damn solid already.
Don't forgets the Nuggets, Carmelo, AI, they will look to add a big body as well.

This trade could actually make the nets better now.
I like Harris a lot - he has the quickness to be an elite defender at the guard position, is putting up very good numbers offesnively too. Kidd on the other hand is shotting 36.6% from the floor and the only advantage he has on Harris at this point in his career is his ability to distribute the ball.
I really see this trade coming back and biting the mavs sooner than later.

Wow. Not sure I like this deal over the long term for the Mavs. Win now or say hello to the lottery in a few years. Dirk and Kidd aren't getting any younger.
This was interesting though:
The report went on to say the Nets are expected to buy out Stackhouse's contract in the near future and that which could enable him to re-sign with the Mavericks after 30 days.

Good lord. The West is stacked with talent now. Take away the Celtics and Pistons and the East becomes completely irrelevant.
This is over payment for a guy like Kidd, but the market in the NBA must be insane right now.

Owners NEED to win so they'll pay anything for a star.
Da_Chief mentioned Denver. Don't forget about Houston and Utah. Expect them to make moves as well.
New Orleans seems to be the odd team out. They're in good shape now but I can't see them keeping up with the rest of the giants in the West.
I love an good arms race.. makes the playoffs exciting!

The arms race is exciting, because in the end youre basically watching an allstar game where the players try.
Chicago might be making some moves (Gordon and/or Wallace).
Utah made a pretty significant move that has been overlooked by the Gasol, Shaq, Kidd trades - Kyle Korver really rounds out that line up and provides some pretty solid mid-range and outside shooting.
I think the Spurs are pretty comfortable staying status quo - once they get their entire lineup back (Parker) they are well rounded and dont have many deficiencies. Bowen might be the best shut down defender in the league.

I don't think it's an overpayment really, considering that Kidd is one of only a handful of players who are triple-double threats every night. Probably don't happen now that he's in Dallas, but still. However, considering the 2 picks are likely to be high, Dallas did give up quite a bit to get him. Harris IMO is a tad overrated though, and aside from his quickness, I don't see the guy being a huge threat to the Raps. Down the road though, those 2 1st rounders may.

I can see Gordon going, but Wallace is the immovable contract they'll have to pay to get off their shoulders unless some dumb GM wants to take a flyer (and there always are). But watching the guy this year has been like night and day to what he was before. I can't believe such a dominant player can change so rapidly in a couple years without major injuries.

He's 24, steadily increasing his PPG and assist totals. The thing is with Harris is that he is a very smart shooter and makes a very high percentage of shots which isn't that common from the guard position.

Yahoo Sports has a rumor (sounds a bit more than a rumor) that the Nets are serious about dealing Carter to Indiana for Jermaine O'Neal (sp?) basically straight up, so much as to going to the extent of having the doc's examine O'Neal's knees already (but that's causing them to back out). Personally, I'd do it 'cause Carter does jack for a "team", but considering the return they just got for Kidd and the "arms race" some of you are pointing out, along with the rebuilding direction the Nets are going with, I'd deal the guy to the first sucker to pop 2 early 1sts along with 1 year contracts.

Kidd is a constant threat for a triple-double (or at least a double-double) but his productivity is on the decline and he's 34. Harris, Stackhouse, Diop, George Ager arent going to blow the doors off of anyone (the last 3 are all UFA's this year) but Harris and Stackhouse are still serviceable.
On top of the players are the two picks - 2008 and 2010 first rounders. They'll be in the 20s which isnt blue chip by any means, but still significant.
The Mavs also sent $3M cash in the trade.
Add it all up and the Mavs are a pretty scary team with Kidd dishing out the ball (top 3-5 PG in the league still). But 5 players, 2 1st rounders and $3M for an aged PG and Malik Allen? Yikes, IMO.
The good news is the fans get to see heavy weights - Dallas, Phoenix, San Antonio; middle weights - LA, New Orleans, Denver and Utah and Dark horses - Golden State and Houston battle it out. Every game of every series has the potential to be dynamite.
The east could probably just fast forward to the Conference Final and have a best of 15 between the Celtics and Pistons... the rest can be put in the NIT bracket.

Devon George is apparently blocking the trade to the Nets - could wreck the entire deal.
Quote:
Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that the teams verbally agreed to the deal earlier Wednesday and were preparing to submit the trade for league approval when George informed the Mavericks that he wouldn't consent to being included in the deal, which is his right based on a rare provision in his one-year contract.

It sounds from the article that it's not a specific article in his contract, it's something universal to all one-year contracts:

If such a player is traded, Bird rights are not traded with him. So league rules compensate for this by requiring George's consent in any trade.

Found this on NBA Salary Cap FAQ:
85. When can't a player be traded? Can players be given "no-trade" clauses in their contracts?
A "no-trade" clause can be negotiated into an individual contract if the player has been in the NBA for at least eight seasons, and has played for the team with which he is signing for at least four seasons. They don't have to be the immediately prior four seasons -- for example, Horace Grant got a no-trade clause from Orlando when he signed with them in 2001. He had played for Orlando for four seasons, but had played for Seattle and Los Angeles in the interim. Very few players actually have one of these no-trade provisions. Otherwise, individually negotiated contracts may not contain no-trade clauses. The no-trade clause prevents the team from making a trade involving the player without the player's consent. In addition, teams cannot trade players under the following circumstances: - For two months after receiving the player in trade or claiming him off waivers, if the player is being traded in combination with other players. However, the team is free to trade the player by himself (not packaged with other players) immediately. This restriction applies only to teams over the salary cap. (Also see question number 72 for a special case where players can be traded together in less than two months.)
- When the trading deadline has passed. Teams are free to make trades again once their season has ended, but cannot trade players whose contracts are ending or could end due to an option or ETO.
- For three months or until December 15th of that season (whichever is later) after signing a contract as a free agent. This obviously does not apply to the trade completing a sign-and-trade transaction (see question number 76). Interestingly, however, it is unclear whether this rule prevents a player who has been signed-and-traded from being traded agiain prior to three months/December 15 (see question number 80).
- For 30 days after signing as a draft pick.
- Without the player's consent when the player is playing under a one-year contract (excluding any option year) and will have Larry Bird or Early Bird rights at the end of the season. This includes first round draft picks following their fourth (option) season, who accept their team's qualifying offer for their fifth season. When the player consents to such a trade, the team loses its Larry Bird/Early Bird rights, and the player is considered a Non-Bird free agent. Note: when there is an option year involved, they can get around this regulation by invoking the option prior to the trade.
- For one year after exercising the right of first refusal to keep a restricted free agent (however, the player can consent to a trade to any team except the team that tried to sign him).
- After claiming a player on waivers, for 30 days if the player was claimed during a season, or until the first day of the next season if the player was claimed during the offseason.
- A team cannot reacquire a player they traded away during that season (a season being July 1 - June 30) unless the player has been waived.
- In the special case of players waived through the amnesty provision (see question number 18), the player cannot be reacquired for the length of the terminated contract.
There seems to be a lot of confusion about the first bullet item above. Many media reports mistakenly say that a player cannot be re-traded for two months under any circumstances, even by himself. This is not true -- Danny Manning's trade from Phoenix to Orlando, and soon thereafter to Milwaukee is one example of the correct application of this trade rule. Other media reports confuse the sign-and-trade rule with this one, claiming that the player can be re-traded within 48 hours or after 60 days, but not in between.

There is no player alive more symbolic of the lazy gutless give me the money attitude then Wince Carter. Last night there he was yet again with the who cares look on the bench as his team got hammered by the Raps. Best day in Raptors history was when they got rid of this LOSER!!! Addition by subtraction is one of the best trades going!!!
