Fernie (Accommodation?)
Hey all,
I was looking at going to Fernie Feb 20 - Feb 22 (or 19-21 or 21-23) and am having a hard time finding accommodation. I always go to Banff and even looking now i see tons of decent rooms for $110-$130/night but when i look at Fernie not only can i not find a room, the rooms that are all booked are all listed as like $400+/night?!
I do see 'Wolf's Den' but it looks pretty ghetto.
Can anyone point me towards a good Fernie accommodation option? I understand it is more expensive then Banff, but are there that few rooms?
At this point i am thinking of just going to Castle Mountain instead?!
(If someone here has a condo in Fernie, I might be interested for a couple hundred bucks and a promise not to break or stain anything?! lol)
Anyone?
Thanks!
Claeren.

Huh. I've never had a problem getting a room in Fernie. Have you been calling the hotels directly? Or are you using an online service?
I've stayed at the Best Western, Fernie Pub hotel, Park Place Lodge, Country Inn as well as a few places on the hill. All are OK except the Country Inn, which sucked ass and was expensive.
Are you referring to the Wolfs Den that is on the mountain? It's cheap, but basic. Are you taking a girl?

Try this place... Snow Valley Motel
We always get a decent price there. Five of us book the Family Suite and it works out to just over $30 each a night.

Yeah, with a girl! Maybe more then one! lol...
I like to go the online route, and i realize if i started calling around i might find some options not on the internet. But (1) most places treat you like crap when you call now days, you can hear them screaming in their minds 'Why don't you check our website?!', (2) I am at work so can use the internet but not the phone and (3) will call once i have narrowed it down.
I am happy spending a bit more for a nicer place though, just not $400! Like $160-$200/night?
I will check those places out though!

^ I agree, but on a multi-day trip I don't really want to be stuck in Pincher Creek...
I will probably do one day of skiing in Castle and one or two days in Fernie.

And if in doubt....call the Raging Elk. Yeah, it's a hostel, but you're guaranteed to get loaded and have a good time. I'd stay on mountain if I were you though. There's a shuttle bus that runs from the hill into town, so you can have a few cocktails after skiing, go back to your place and get changed, and go into town.
I can't remember how we always get back to the hill after a night out though. Was it by cab? Bus? not sure really.

Already checked skifernie but i had all sorts of trouble getting actual quotes. Wolf's Den has the $99/night deal but the rest either won't give me a room (so booked up?) or are like $400 a night. I have also tried going directly to the websites of the places listed on skifernie but with little luck.
I have had a bunch of luck with Best Western & Park Place Lodge though! Although Best Western may be all booked....

My friends and I usually stay at the Super 8 in Fernie. It's nice and the price is right imo. I just checked their availability and they have rooms during the 20-22 you were looking for. It's about 125 a night, but you get free wireless internet and continental breakfast which is like muffins/toast/juice. The rooms are clean and the service is great everytime we've stayed there. Hope that helps, have a great time in Fernie.

I'd just go, and figure it out when you get there. I would think that it's extremely unlikely that all the hotels in Fernie would be completely booked, and even if they were you could always stay in Sparwood.
That's just me though....most girls like to have some kind of security net and contingency plan. Mine is called a floor in someone's house, that you just met in the bar!

It is Reading Week for the school kids so it is more booked then usual. Add in their 900cm of snow this year and I am thinking they are having little trouble filling rooms! lol....
As for Pincher Creek, I am already staying there this weekend (while at Castle), so 3 more days may be overkill! haha

If you're staying with more than one girl this could work in your favour you know. You should be hoping there's only 1 room available with one double bed in it, and drink specials at the pub.
You should think about going to the hill in Revy sometime....I rode it last month and it was better than most hills I've ridden in Canada. Still lacking some of the infrastructure of the Intrawest or RCR resorts, but cheaper and easier to get hotel rooms, not to mention grub at various sledder pubs. The snow is unreal too....if you think 900cms is lots......wrap your head around 30-40 feet average per year. This year is above average, and last time I was there (Jan 1) there was 6 foot snowbanks on everyones front lawn.

How much is the Griz Inn these days? My parents used to own a condo in there, so I used to go there quite often and stay for free, sweet deal.

I went to Fernie a few weeks ago and stayed at the Super 8 as well and I recommend it too, it was one of, if not the cheapest hotel I searched for and the rooms were clean and relatively nice, like the other poster mentioned free breakfast. Cost us $112 or something like that for two queen beds.

Did you try looking in Sparwood? We've stayed there a few times when we couldn't find anything decent/cheap in Fernie.
