Habs sign another random Russian
The Habs have signed defenseman Andrei Plekhanov to a 3 year, 2 way deal. Plekhanov was drafted by the Blue Jackets in the 3rd round in 2004. Even back then he was only really drafted because of a very strong Russia-Canada six game series. Since being drafted he has played for multiple teams and has been a bit of a rover. He finally made the journey over to North America and in 28 games with the Syracuse Crunch, he has 3 goals and 11 assists.
We realize he is a bit of a long shot and who knows if he defects to Russia again, but Columbus is shy of quality defenseman, and Plekhanov's old coach (from Moscow Dynamo) Krikunov did refer to him as "the future NHL star."
