puremobile.ca
Yes another cell phone thread. Didn't really know if this fit in the other ones though and I don't want to run someone elses thread off topic so...
Has anyone used puremobile?
Currently i'm with telus but would like to switch to a GSM based rogers network phone. Instead of purchasing from their overpriced and limited phone selection, I have decided to purchase either from ebay or some place like www.puremobile.ca.
I'm assuming that phones bought from ebay or puremobile come with a sim card? Or does rogers provide that to you? My current phone is on Telus CDMA network so I don't have a sim card.
Basically looking to buy a phone off the net, take it to rogers and say switch my number and service over to this phone and then I can cancel my service with telus.
Thanks for any advice.

Rogers will have to give you a sim card. But the setup for the phone will be as simple as just putting it in the phone. You will of course have to ensure that the phone you buy is unlocked. I bought my current phone, which is a Razr, off of eBay. I am a existing Rogers customer, so all I had to do was swap out my sim card from my old phone and everything was dandy.

I've known people that bought off puremobile before. They aren't the best when it comes to service (they said they had a phone when they didn't, and it was difficult to get a hold of them to get the full story..), but they aren't scammers.
I got my current phone off eBay from Hong Kong.

Thanks for the info guys. I haven't decided on which phone to get yet. Suggestions are welcomed. Looking at maybe a Nokia or SE k series. I don't require tons of features, just rather have something reliable and different than what everyone else has from rogers or telus etc.

You can also go with Fido with an unlocked phone. Per second billing!

So my contract with Telus is up in December. I have been with Telus for about 6 years now. I haven't had many problems with Telus, in fact they have been pretty good.
But the lack of phone selection has me frustrated, along with all the "restrictions" that are imposed on you. So lately, I have been looking into unlocked phones, and possible switch to a GSM phone.
Out of Rogers & Fido, which do you feel is a better choise?

+1 for Fido.
You can get the option to have the same coverage as Rogers, but the per second billing is killer, especially if you're like me and make lots of calls that last a couple seconds when you're trying to figure out where your friend you're meeting for lunch is at.
If I ever don't have a work phone, I'd go Fido for sure.

Omega cell is another option. I bought my phone from them, and they have treated me pretty well. They just opened a shop on 17th, and they match online retailer prices too!

I prefer Fido; they share Rogers' network and have great plans. Their paradigm seems to be more in line with their European counterparts than the other Canadian service providers. I see them as the People's service provider. Also, their Urban Package and per second billing is HUGE!

That's nice to hear. My friend use to buy off of them but he found cheaper online stores, but now that they have a store in town and they'll match prices I think I might start purchasing my mobiles from Omega.

little bit of an update/bump.
i'll be most likely upgrading in the next month or so to a new phone and new network since my contract expired with telus in December and I need a new phone.
I'm thinking of going with this Nokia 6500 Classic:
http://www.hi-mobile.net/Nokia/Nokia...ully-Unlocked/
On the Fido network.
My question again has to do with sim cards again. With Rogers i'm sure I can just go to a store and get a sim card with contract from them. But with Fido I don't think there are any stores, are there? I don't recall seeing any. I'm in the SW so if there is a fido store around there I guess I could go and check it out, otherwide i'd have to do it over the phone and get them to mail me a sim card or something.
