Internet Failure Hits Two Continents
Internet Failure Hits Two Continents
Quote:
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CNN) -- Large swathes of Asia, the Middle East and north Africa had their high-technology services crippled Thursday following a widespread Internet failure which brought many businesses to a standstill and left others struggling to cope.
One major telecommunications provider blamed the outage, which started Wednesday, on a major undersea cable failure in the Mediterranean.
India's Internet bandwidth has been sliced in half, The Associated Press reported, leaving its lucrative outsourcing industry trying to reroute traffic to satellites and other cables through Asia.

I really hope this doesn't spread, although it doesn't sound like it is likely to.

don't panic, we just need to unclog the congestion with a Keno ball.
If I could find the daily show clip to go along with that statement this thread would be certified gold.

Maybe we should give Al Gore a call.
The guy who invented the internet could probably help with getting this tube problem sorted out. Maybe fix global warming while he's at it.

Al apparently busy having work done on his house. Getting a new small coal fired plant to generate power so he can have a few new goodies installed.
He could however probably do a movie about it!!!

A cable off the coast of Egypt was cut by a ship's anchor.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/01...lose_internet/
Quote:
A spokesman for Flag Telecom, the owner of the severed cable, told the Reg: "It is a problem off the coast of Alexandria in Egypt. For some reason ships were asked to anchor in a different place to normal - 8.3km from the beach. One of the ship's anchors cut our cable but there are multiple cuts - we're not the only company having problems."

Another cable has been damaged in the middle east.
This is the 5th one in about a week.

Anyone else find it ironic that internet outages are being reported over the internet. Reminds me of that episode of Family guy when peter took out the TV signal.
