Winter Storm watch for Calgary?

The Forecast only mentions trace ammounts of snow and the temps don't look that bad..

Winter storm watch for
City of Calgary continued

Strong winds and blowing snow will herald the return of Arctic air Friday.

The potential for severe winter weather exists over these regions.



A low pressure system is forecast to develop over western Alberta early Friday morning and move rapidly southeastward. A fresh surge of cold Arctic air will push sharply southward behind the low and ahead of a ridge of high pressure building in from the Yukon. Gusty northerly winds will combine with fresh snow to produce reduced visibilities in blowing snow especially in exposed areas as this system passes. Most regions in southern Alberta east of the foothills will feel the intense but short lived effects of this storm.

The low will move into Saskatchewan by mid day, but northerly winds will persist and combine with falling temperatures to generate wind chills approaching the minus 40 mark, especially over eastern sections. The bitterly cold conditions will persist into the weekend.

A winter storm watch is an alert of the potential development of severe winter weather. Persons in or near these areas should be prepared for developing adverse weather conditions and should listen for updated watches and possible warnings.
