Republik to rise again?
Does anyone know anything about this? I just saw a group on Facebook that suggests that the Republik will return soon?

Yeah word is they're opening up in Murials (sp?) on 17th Ave the 300 block. If done right it's rock, more likely it's gonna be a brutal attempt to recapture a truly awesome bar.

Why do I imagine it's just gonna turn into a mix of the Back Alley and tequila's or something...

Victoria's is running strong and gaining speed, I don't see it going there.

Not possible to "recreate" this. New generation, new music. Not gonna happen.

What is it that people have against Paul Vickers? I've heard many people say they hate him, but I've never heard any reasons why.

Yeah I'm in agreement. Why do so many people get so worked up about other bars and the people that go to them. God I hated the Republik, just not my scene, not my type of people, I got dragged their by some friends every now and then and never enjoyed it.
But if they want to reopen it - I don't care. Let those people have their fun and listen to that music etc. Makes no difference to me. I'll just die a little inside when I end up there a few times.

I have been there twice this week. It is in the Victoria's location and it is scheduled to open in Mid-December. It looks like it should rock. I have never been in the Victoria's location (for whatever reason) but this place is nice. Lots of different levels, rooms etc. I for one welcome the return of the Republik. I believe it is being brought to us by our Friends at the Drum & Monkey and Victor Choi once again.

Calgary lacks venues for live music so this should be a good thing. Lots of great bands came through the Republik, seemed there was a boom for a bit with the Westward and Night Gallery along with a place on 1st street with a name that i can't think of right now. It was to the south of the Drum and upstairs, nice place.
Obviously the Republik won't be as good as it once was, in order to do that they would have needed to get rid of Tequila and get it up and running in that place, lots of drunk nights there.

You can't think of the name because that venue has had so many names. When I did my bar thing (18-24), that place switched names at least 10 times.
