Oilers shakeup defence with eye on next season
Tyrant GM Sylvanfan appears to be up to his old tricks causing misery for every person he comes in contact with in the CPHL with the exception of those who make trades with him. This time the surefire Risebrough award winner sealed his fate by moving 3 of his top 4 defenceman for his trademark younger cheaper players. This time it's warrior Adam Foote, warrior in training Scott Hannan, uber slick puck mover Brian Rafalski, and Ales the wonder kid Hemsky. Coming to the Great White North are Sylvanfans admittedly alltime favorite guy Dan Hamhuis, Matthias Oluhnd, Kristian Huselius, Stephan Quintal, and Matthew Lombardi. As always Sylvanfan was trying to sell his same old recycled crap to the media afterwards in explaining his (ir)rational for making the moves.
"We feel that this season is important to our organization, but in reality next year is our target championship season. There are two or three teams in this league that are just freaking unreally good right now and we can't beat them this year. But with the players we brought in we can still compete hard this year, but will get better next year and the years after with the core we now have." In describing his departed allstar calibre players Sylvanfan offered the following comments. "Adam Foote is a great competitor, in fact he was just too damn tough for this team, the lack of toughness that other guys showed drove him nuts, and as a result he took too many penalties and gaffed the odd play out of disgust at his team mates. Scott Hannan is a good solid tough stay at home defenceman, but we feel that what he shows now is what we'll see for the foreseeable future. He's certainly a very good NHL player. Rafalski is a clever puck moving defenceman, but he's still second fiddle behind Brian Leetch, and he's not really big enough to handle a big workload. Ales is a very good skilled player, but to be honest he lost out to Zherdev on our team. We felt that for the coming seasons we needed to find a way to turn Ales into a similar type defenceman for our organization."
"We feel that Ohlund, Huselius, Hamhuis, and Lombardi are all very good younger players who's best days are to come. Quintal gives us a decent priced defenceman who can teach Thomas Malec the traits of how to be a CPHL blue line ogre. All these players are player who will grow with our core group in the future. Now I have to step out to drink some Lucky Lager, Alberta Reserve, and chow down on some Cheemo Perogy's."
