What have you Authored on Wikipedia?
Hey guys, I just submitted my first wikipedia article and I wanted to know if anyone on here has authored anything. I first submitted it earlier without any sources but have since added many and have added some information. I had to contest a "speedydelete", haha, because I didn't have sources now but I think I've got a solid entry.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beija_flor
Contructive Criticism is welcome, but it is really hard to find sources for this particular topic. Please let me know if you think something should be added or deleted. I know there are a few points on there that need references, but I have some personal knowledge on the subject as I am closely aquainted with the members of the band, so they will come once I find them published elsewhere.
Also let me know how my tone is. I tried to write from a purely neutral standpoint but a second opinion would be appreciated.
I am also extremely interested in seeing what you guys may have authored on there so please share your articles as well.

Well, did you mention "The American" enough times? It is close, but doesn't seem neutral; especially when there are lines like "has since taken the reigns of the second guitar." That sounds like PR.
Instead of "John has since left the band and Stephen's long time friend Brett Gunther, of the now defunct The Buzzing Bees, has since taken the reigns of the second guitar."
How about something more like "John left the band and was replaced by Brett Gunther."
It isn't important if Brett is friends with Steve, and I doubt many people reading Wiki would understand the relevance that Brett played for another band. Those types of things are very fan oriented, not encyclopedia oriented. If the band gets big them maybe previous history will be more important, but until then if someone hears the name and looks them up, you should stick to dry facts, and make sure there is a link or 2 two a fan site for those who do care to want more information. Less like Rolling Stone, more like Encyclopedia Britannica.
But that is just my opinion.

Thanks man! I've taken most of your advice, other than the part about Brett being Steve's friend. I've looked at other band sites and they tend to have that kind of information. I did, however, take out that Brett was from The Buzzing Bees.
Haha, and after reading what you said I took out a couple mentions of The American. I hadn't read the entire article all together. It's strange when you are editing different parts seperately.
Other than that it looks ok?

Man wikipedia is blocked here in China. It's so lame.
I mean, I can use a proxy to look at it anyways, but so many people are also afraid of being fined for using a proxy that when I'm at home on my roomies computers I can't even view your link. Stupid China! Shanghai would be a much cooler city if there wasn't so much control over the culture here. Anything cool that gets started seems to get shut down, or just fail because it doesn't appeal to people accustomed to such thoroughly filtered cultural outlets.

Instead of banning Wikipedia the Chinese government should just go in and modify entries like the American, Australian, and probably other governments, do.

I can see why there was an attempted speedy deletion request - unsigned indie bands generally fail the guidelines for music acts. The #1 on the CJSW charts will prevent a speedy request, but if someone nominates it for deletion, I'm not certain it will survive a debate, since the notability is very local in scope.
Has this band toured? Especially across Canada?

I've written a number of articles on Wikipedia, but not too many lately. I've stopped really keeping track of which ones I wrote. One of my earliest substantial articles is probably the one on Maksym Berezovsky. I wrote that about 3.5 years ago and the bulk of is is still largely what I had originally wrote. Since then I've touched on various topics such as the mayors of Calgary and hockey related articles.
I think you did a good job with that article. Unfortunately, I believe that the article may still get deleted due to the lack of notability. Check out the link that Resolute posted if you would like to understand why.

Yep, I've read it, and my article actually follows the notability guidelines. Beija Flor has been written about in a few legitimate news sources, has a #1 requested song on CJSW, and has been featured on CBC radio 1, which is national coverage. I don't know how much traffic it will get, but it's already been groomed a couple times.

I haven't touched many of the NHL specific articles. Mostly Calgary hockey, the WHL and the AJHL. The link to the NHL article is just a section header.
The Calgary Flames article is probably about 30% my own content. The rest I copyedited and cited. You should have seen it when I started on it... It had to have been written by an Oilers fan who made sure to compliment Edmonton as much as possible, while including a few backhanded insults to Calgary. I'm rather proud of that one, since I was able to take it from pro-Edmonton garbage to Good Article status, and hopefully Featured Article status. And eventually, on the main page as the featured article of the day.
There probably isn't much that is geekier than writing 200+ Wikipedia articles, but it is a fun hobby. Especially since I've learned a lot more about hockey history - especially in this city - than I ever thought existed. I barely knew about the Tigers before I started in on that article. Those damned Montreal Canadiens beat us in the Stanley Cup back then too. But yeah, if you trust me, you can trust most articles related to Calgary hockey on Wikipedia.

I can vouch for Resolute's comments. Just as I was slowing down on contributing, I watched the progress being made in Calgary hockey articles. Resolute moved Calgary hockey articles along a lot faster on his own than all other contributors combined.
Good job on the articles, even if I disagree with you in most debates.
