Anyone who follows this knows that the writ was/is expected to be dropped next week. With Stelmach making an early return from the first ministers conference though one has to wonder if the writ is dropped today.

This would basically mean this week is a write-off in terms of campaigning for all parties, effectively shortening the election by a few days from the standard 28.

Thoughts?

I agree. The Writ's being dropped soon. I've been hearing Stelmach semi-election ads on the radio for a couple days now.

Shows how much I have paid attention, I had no idea we were on the verge of a provincial election. Ed really has turned me off to the whole provincial scene, despite the fact that I spend quite a bit of time in Calgary Shaw MLA's office.

Maybe it has something to do with me getting a Wii and GH3 in the last 2 weeks :/

I've heard from pretty good sources that writ is going to be dropped on Feb. 4th.

I've always heard the 4th as well, from a lot of sources. But last night I heard today...so I made the thread.

Hey Rath, if you're working for Cindy Ady then by all means go ahead and stick to GH3 and the Wii!!! (kidding, but I couldn't resist!)

I've had two different election pollers call me, and one guy asking if I would support "Ed Steinmack" and the PC in the next election.

The good news is whoever is paying for those anti-Ed smear ads are getting their money's worth.

The bad news is there's no-one to vote for when the writ drops next Monday (or so I assume, seeing as those things tend to happen at the beginning of the week for maximum weekday campaign time). I mean, the NDPers are as irrelevant as ever, the Greens are the same and are nothing but a one policy party who run the gamut from hard left lunatic to right wing capitalist (and their leaders are always questionable at best and deranged at worst), the Liberals have a useless leader and are not at all business friendly, Stelmach is a total moron with "no plan", and the Wildrose Alliance... I can't vote for a party with that much evangelical religious permeation... doesn't sit right to me. Ugly days in the Alberta electorate.

She is a family friend, and if the election is in Feb I doubt i will get time with school and the new baby to help her out. If I get time though, I will probably give her a hand... As long as it won't affect my RRSP's

Agreed, Kevin Taft is about as useless as a old, hole riddled condom.

I hope we see more of those election ads. The one with the creepy guy whispering "No Plan" is awesome.

I hate that ad ... especially at the end when he says "Don't plan on it"

No kidding. I'm seriously considering putting in a vote for the NDP, just for poop and giggles.

I hate the idea of voting Liberal but I can't support a party with Eddie in charge. No chance in hell I vote for the Wildrose, I just say no to the wacko right. The PC's need another leadership vote, get Ed out then I'll vote PC again.

I kind of agree with you. However, I am really, really hesitant about throwing a protest vote to the Liberals on the off chance they COULD (longest shot ever) win. The way the Liberals are organized now, from what I hear from some close, disgruntled insiders, they have no capabilities of coming close to governing. So my protest is going to the NDP. It's not even close to what I believe, but the next time I get into an argument with any of my left wing friends, I can also say I voted NDP once.

I'm going to bet that we see a lot of voters stay at home this election. Enough to ensure that the Tories mandate won't be strong, which will probably cause the formation of that party that Albertans feel would help our province move into the future reality. Something environmental and market driven, with a strong concern for social problems would be my bet.

I'm voting for the Liberals based on a very strong and credible candidate. I think that Taft is a very smart guy. Maybe not the most charismtic, but he certainly knows what he is doing.

I am not going to vote if there is an election- unless there is an independant I can get behind.

Liberals- too liberal, too much change
Conservative- sorry Ed but you're not the type of guy I want leading Alberta
NDP- who votes for them...
"Wildrose party"- I know they are promoted by a poster on this site, but I just can't support them.

So there you go, that's why I won't be voting.

For what it's worth, I work in the publishing business and I had an ad agency that had booked some ads for an upcoming multi-media provincial ad campaign (not election related) call and cancel the ad because "the writ is going to be dropped next week and all advertising of this nature must be canceled until after the election." I guess that's still not 100% confirmation on the timing, but pretty close.

I think I would have to burn the clothes I was wearing when I voted and cry in the shower screaming "no!!" like in Ace Ventura if I did that.

However, I might send my protest vote to the Green party, so when my lefty buddies say that I'm a cold hearted capitalist with no care about what industry does to the environment (which is pretty far from the truth, but some of these guys are very left), I can tell them that its not true, and I voted Green once.
