Default CP Parents...what rules have you eliminated...

from what your parents raised you with?

In other words....your parents may have said bed time is 9pm for kids up to 12...10pm up to 15...etc etc...

Have you eliminated or changed philosophies or rules that you had as a child for YOUR children?

What still applies?...what doesnt?

Out of fairness, I make sure my daughter is subjected to the same unfair tyranny I had to live under...

But honestly, I think she has more rules. Seems I would wander about the neighborhood fairly freely compared to what she does these days. Don't know if that's a sign of the times of maybe just the child's individual tendancy to push boundaries.

But the biggest change is punishment. My parents had no problems giving me a whack on the rear, but when my daughter was born, myself and her mom agreed that would not be an acceptable form of punishment. It doesn't seem to have made her less obedient or poorly behaved. She's turning out just fine.

Eliminated? Wow, probably not many ... I'm like JD. I grew up on a farm and had a LOT of freedom. More than I'd ever dream of allowing my kids, both because times were different then and because I know what kind of trouble I got into with all that freedom. So ya, I definitely have more rules for my kids than I had. About the only rule I can think of that I've dropped is "Make sure the gun isn't loaded before you bring it in the house." My kids don't have guns.

My daughter's only 7 months old, but already there's one big difference. I never has a set bedtime in my life--my parents were kind of free-spirited about it. We put my daughter to bed before 7:00 every night. My parents think it's unbelievably stupid, but we're not about to change that.

I was given full permission by my parents to shoot the neighbors dog if it came anywhere near the yard. I won't let my kids kill the neighbors dog, regardless of what it does. I grew up on a ranch forty miles from town. My kids are growing up in the city.
