the deal is for one year plus an option, worth $150,000 a season and could go as high as $200,000 with incentives.

His wife is from Medicine Hat, and they live together in Calgary during the off-season. It basically came down to if he wanted to be able to stay in Calgary year round with his wife at a reduced pay and a back-up job, or to go cross-country to Toronto for a chance to be a starter and receive his full $400K. Honestly I thought he'd choose Toronto for the full pay and to be able to play, but I guess at this point in his career he just wants to come home.

Welcome home DD! It's been too long!

his brother is ST coach here also and it's close to Montana for them.

edit: i didn't read the story. $150,000? wowzers. I think that may be a bit much for a backup QB.

He will eventually become a coach - 1st offensive coordinator, then a head coach.

The Stamps always seem to end up in a situation where they have to play their backups, so keeping a good one is essential - also, I think we'll be seeing a lot of DD this year. Hank wont have nearly as much rope as he has had recently and will be yanked in a heartbeat during the playoffs if he so much as makes 1 stupid play.

The thing is though, Henry came off an MVP like season last year. He threw a ton of TD's and was the hottest QB in the league for quite a while. I think to throw Hank off the bus when he makes mistakes is a bad idea. He's the #1 QB here and he can be the best QB in the league when he's on his game.

Yanking him in a playoff game when he's not getting the job done is a different story though. Edmonton did that quite well to a number of teams when they won it last by putting Maas in (who should have been wearing a Ti-Cats jersey at the time).

Good move by the Stamps. It seems that the teams with a solid 1-2 punch at the QB situation have been the most successful over the past few years. As they say, a team is as good as their backup QB and the Stamps have the best in the league.

That said, that is a tonne of dough to pay for a non-starter. While Hank is the obvious #1, at the kind of coin, I don't think they'll hesitate to throw DD if Hank struggles. And Hank is not one that has been known for in the past as thriving or reacting well to competition at the QB position. The Stamps have a real good team shaping up for this year but they better be careful with the potential two headed QB monster here...

You'd like to think so, and some of that larger then backup salary as goodwill/prepayment for being a future coach within the organization, but that's the theory I thought they were doing with McManus two season ago too, so....

This is a good move. I don't know how anyone can be confident with Henry "Throws into Triple Coverage" Burris as your unquestioned #1. At least if he's playing like crap, he can be yanked for a quality guy without tossing the game.

Ah true, but double D is a band-aid solution (No pun intended) to having a good backup. Ultimatelty why you want a good backup and why the Stamps finished the season at 7-10-1 wasn't because Burris sucked but rather because he got hurt at a crucial time of the year. The Stamps need someone who can pick-up and finish the season should Burris get injured. With Dave Dickenson you'd have to be dipping into your third QB in that situation because he's not capable of playing more than 3 games without hurting himself badly.

And has choked 3 years in a row during the playoffs.

I think he'll see a half of the first playoff game and if the stamps are behind due to Hank, he'll be benched - then it is DD's team.

To put the blame of the plast three playoff losses squarley on the shoulders of Burris is a little harsh in my opinion. Sure, he didn't play well, but the rest of the team didn't come to play either. What about Joffrey fumbling the ball everytime he touches it? Pretty tough to score points when the other team has the ball. Then there's the inepitude of the defense to actually make a stop.

And then there's an offside call on an onside kick.

Notwithstanding injury, DD will be the starter by the time the playoffs roll around. Burris sucks. Great arm, no brain. The Stamps have receivers who can make the play... they just need someone to get them the ball and Dickenson can do that.

...until DD goes down with a concussion in game 4 and misses half the season. I love DD and I'm glad he's back in town but this is Hank's team now. As mentioned earlier in this thread, despite Hank's ups and downs, he's coming off an MVP-calibre performance from last year, and can be the best QB in the league when he's on. The Stamps finished 7-10-1 last year but IMO that was mostly due to Hank's injury late in the year. That was a 9-9 to 10-8 team last year, it wasn't as bad as the record suggested. And even then I'd put alot more of it on the D than anything Hank did.
