Default Verizon 0.02 cents Flames style.

Ok, Not to nit pick, but ths is for those who attend the games and also have heard of the verizon 0.02 cents debacle. The Flames have an in game promotion (trivia) where they ask a question and give three choices and you can text the answer and possibly win a prize (obviously). They advertise each text costs .50 cents. I know they mean 50 cents but on the jumbotron it does say .50 cents, with the cents symbol following it. Not sure if anyone has seen this. But it is comical. so in reality, for those who do not know, they really should be charging half a cent per text.

We should alert KK about this shoddy math.

Not sure of any other instances.

Please be picky. This stuff annoys me, too. Years ago I saw something advertised for .99 cents. Clearly, they meant 99 cents. I went in, said I'll take a hundred, put down a dollar bill (we had those back then, sonny), and keep the change. Needless to say, I never got the merchandise.

I hate that too. Something worth being picky about IMO.

It's worth being picky about. If the math is wrong, the math is wrong. 50 cents does not equal .50 cents.

Wow... surprised at all the people who think this is something worth being picky about. Hair in your food is worth being picky about... the Verizon promotion at the Flames game isn't (especially when you're not really confused... everyone knows its 50 cents). Were there 10,000 people at the game who seriously couldn't figure out it was 50 cents?

Now... I suppose if you're really, really looking for something to be picky about, then sure... technically (with a nasal accent) Verizon is wrong. Get out a pen.

I notice that too. I've been tempted to take a picture of it, enter the contest, then dispute the charges with Telus. Once they have to start issuing refunds they might make a correction.

I think it's worth being picky about. Stuff like this drives me nuts.

What are the rules on advertising mistakes? You see corrections in the paper all the time, is there anything to prevent an unscrupulous vendor from putting up a false price (to get customers in the store) then say it was a mistake when the customer actually tries to make the purchase?

It probably depends on how flagrant the deception is. In this case it seems to be a pretty nitpicking issue... to be genuinely pissed about getting charged 50 cents 'when the sign said .50 cents' is taking things a bit far. I never agree with MYK... but in this case, I'll make an exception. Naziis!

It's not a huge deal, but it is a professional organization. I'm in the "get it right" camp. I would absolutely cringe if they misused your/you're on the jumbotron. Why shouldn't they get this right?

I could be wrong, but my guess as to why they call it .50 cents rather than .50 dollars is because, believe or not, a lot of 18-22 year old men are just that stupid. Seriously, I'm 20 and I know I have a lot of friends who would see .50 dollars and be discouraged, and maybe even think it meant 50 dollars. I have friends who still have trouble telling time on a clock, I even have a couple friends who can't name all the months of the year in the correct order. My best friend asked me how to spell "nick" a few days ago. Yes it's scary, and it's not just the town I live in so nobody use that line on me.

I think that's the reason they write it that way. When they say .50 cents, everyone understands the cost. The intelligent people correct the mistake, and the not so intelligent people go on never even realizing there was a mistake. Everyone knows its 50 cents a message.

Umm, what town do you live in?

If the idea is to cater to the truly challenged, why not just get rid of the decimal altogether? "50 cents a call" seems pretty straightforward.

I think it's just a mistake. They should correct it.

As far as i know, if you advertise a price, you are bound to that, how this is affected by wording such as "while supplies last" or something like that I don't know.

What I can tell you is if something is labeled with a certain price on a shelf, the store MUST sell it to you at that price, even if it is a mistake.

It's not being nitpicky. It's just being wrong.

There is a difference between charging .50 cents and 50 cents. If you're charging one and saying it's the other, you're advertising the wrong price. That's like saying there's no difference in charging 15 cents a wing and $15.00 for a wing. If you say one and charge the other, people will get pissed.

Edit: Can they not just put in $0.50 per text? Can someone really get that confused? It would think that's way clearer than this stupid .50 cents and 50 cents argument.

that is most certainly not true. just because the label says that they do not have to sell it to you for that much.

i believe you can get a certain amount of $ off. like up to $ 10 or something.

if a $2000 TV has a price tag for $20.00 you do not get a $1980 discount.
