The Calgary Flames are please to announce the following trade:
Sergei Gonchar, Anson Carter and Byron Dafoe have been acquired in exchange for Eric Daze, Oleg Tverdovsky, Mike Zigomanis and a second round draft pick.
It was no secret that the Flames have been in the market to acquire a true Number 1 Defenceman. Were we expecting to land Gonchar, absolutely not.
However, with the arrival of a new GM, the Flames were approached regarding the acquisition of Eric Daze.
Although the deal had to be reworked, as the original trade was rejected by the CPHL governing body, The Flames are very pleased in the overall deal.
We feel that this will bolster our defence, providing us wiht some scoring up front and give us a good backup in Byron Dafoe.
The Flames are very eager to make the playoffs and hopefully go deep into them. We think that this trade will help us out in accomplishing our goal.
