Flames go 4 for 4

Our Flames for the first time this year go 4 for 4 beating the St. Louis Blues 3-1.

Although not a lot of shots directed at Blues goaltender Curtis Joseph, three fine goals somehow eluded him.

The Flames have been playing remarkable hockey lately given the fact, that so many of their key players have been injured of late. On the shelf over the last four games, the Flames have had Daze, Sturm, Stevens, Weinrich and a host of others in the pressbox eating popcorn. Given so many key players out and how remarkably the team has come together, has GM Axmann thinking if some players may be expendable. "We will listen to any and all offers for any of our players, excluding Jarome Iginla" Axmann was overheard saying to Don "donut man Koharski.

Flames took all three star selection positions with Biron, Iginla and Lang completing the trio.

Next up for the Flames are the mighty Penquins..a team many suspect will be taken lightly but not by this onfire Flames team.

We will play them, like any other team!!.. We need, want to two points and they stand in the way of that, Captain Iginla told us today.

Well it was two tough game for the Panthers and they only managed 1 point against the Stars.

"Were we expecting better results but unfortunatly they didn't come" said Penney.

Marleau was less than impressive in his first start and was held scorless. he was a -2 in the game and wasn't really a factor at all.

"It is going to take me a little while to get use to my new surroundings" said Marleau. "I was playing ont he 2nd line today which I was doing in Columbus...but I hope to get a chance to play on the top unit very soon" he continued.

The Panthers play once again tomorrow when they face the Oilers. Panthers GM is hoping that the Oilers soon go on a losing streak which will hopefully prompt the Oilers GM to make a great trade with the Panthers.

Big Win!
Wild Put Halt to Potential Losing Streak

After dropping the last 2 games, the Wild were in real danger of starting an extended losing streak. With 3 games remaining in a stretch that sees the Wild play 7 games in 7 nights, an exhausted Minnesota team looked horrible in losses against the Sharks and Flames. Heading into tonight’s tilt against the Bruins it seemed a 3rd loss in a row was likely.

However, a big night from the Wild’s second line, coupled with shaky goaltending from Bruin backup netminder Tommy Salo spelled a big win for the Wild.

Former Bruin Andrew Brunette opened the scoring with a powerplay goal, jamming home the puck on a goal mouth scramble. However, the Bruins responded under 2 minutes later with Bruins super-sniper Ilya Kovalchuk connecting with his 16th of the year. Kovalchuk gave the Bean towners the lead midway through the second ripping a shot over the shoulder of Jocelyn Thibault.

However, unlike previous games the Wild seemed to get stronger as the game went on, and carried the play in the third, peppering Salo with 16 shots. Andrew Brunette scored his second of the game midway through the frame to tie the score. Veteran Glen Wesley then notched his first goal of the game on the powerplay to give the Wild the lead. Jan Hrdina notched an all important insurance goal with under 3 minutes to go to seal the victory.

GM and Head Coach Grant Farhall who has recently called into question the heart of his club, was pleased with the effort.

“Finally we had some guys respond tonight. Not all of our lines were connecting tonight but the effort was certainly there. This is a tough stretch for us - our aim was to get 8 points in this 7 game stretch, and that is a possibility now.”

Game Notes-Chris Gratton made his Wild debut, receiving 9 minutes of ice time on the third line.
-Matthias Ohlund continues to struggle and was a –2 on the night, although he did have a game high 8 shots.
-The Wild next play tomorrow against the New York Rangers. The game was to be a matchup between Jocelyn Thibault and Jose Theodore who were swapped for each other 2 weeks ago. However, Thibault appeared tired in the third period and as such, Farhall announced back-up Garth Snow would get the start.
-Sami Kapanen was scratched for the third straight game, recovering from an assortment of injuries. However Farhall announced Kapanen is ready to return to the line-up. The Wild went 1-2 without Kapanen in the lineup and their offense was noticeably less effective. Willie Mitchell is still at least a week away from returning.

Congratulations on Sanford for getting his first win of the season. The threats of a trade seem to have done the job. Fedorov and Sanderson both had 2 goals in the win.

Morrow appears to be a lock for the next player of the week. He is putting up Rasmussen type numbers! 9 points in his 4 games as a wing. Friesen is out with a boo boo and it looks like Jason Krog is the first line center for tomorrows game against the sharks. Wings are very happy to pull off a tie against the high powered avs.

Tomorrow game vs the Sharks will be interesting. Freddy Brathwaite will get his first start. Elias and Friesen will be up in the press box and Lankow for the 40th game in a row will try and recover on the teams 3rd line.

Kolanos leads Stars to win

Dallas,TX- Krys Kolanos had a strong night and lead Dallas to their fourth win of the season. The young center had a goal and 2 assists as he contributed on all 3 Dallas goals in a 3-2 victory over the Panthers. Wiemer who had 2 points extended his point scoring streak to an impressive nine games. Kolanos and Bednar both scored the team leading ninth goal of the season. Also Sandy McCarthy who was recently called up scored his first of the season.

Goaltender Ryan Miller picked up his second win of the season and improved his record to 2-0-0. Unfortunetly he was caught in a collision with Radek Martinek and had to leave the game in the third period. He is day to day and it is unknown exactly when he will be back. For the time being the Stars have placed a claim for Antero Niitymaki who is on waivers and if claimed will backup Chris Osgood. Also on the injury front Antti Laaksonen will again miss tomorrow's game as he is still struggling with his injury and continues to be day to day. Orszagh has a minor wrist injury and expects to be out for only another week or two.

The Stars will face the New Jersey Devils tomorrow afternoon. This will be the Stars sixth game is six days and they will then get a short two day rest.
