Default Journeyman

Did some searching and couldn't find a thread about it, so I decided to make one. This has quickly become one of my favorite shows on TV. The comparisons to Quantam Leap have always been there, but the show actually does a really, really good job with the time-travel concept and the details surrounding Dan's condition. The main plot points are just now starting to come together...I'm getting more and more excited for the next episode as the season goes on!

I can't be the only one that is this excited about this show, can I?

I'm a couple of episodes behind but I've got them PVR'd, hoping to catch up tonight. The first episode hooked me, and it's really picked up since then. There's four more episodes left (after last night) and I'm hoping it's not a casualty of the writers' strike.

You aren't. It is sometimes mentioned in the Heroes thread, but it does deserve it's own thread. Yeah, it's quite good.

Last night was a nice twist in that his changing the past has bad consequences on his present. It has a good story to go along with the quantum leaps, each episode is both self contained and adds to the overall story, I like it.

I'm waiting for him to be flung way back in the past, accidently sneeze on a dinosaur killing it, and returning to his home to find out that it rains donuts and everyone has a forked tongue.

What . . . its been done

Otherwise its an outstanding show, too bad I missed it last night.

Last night's episode was great.....
After he finally seems to have worked things out with Jack, he goes and changes the future. Next weekend's episoe looks like a good one as well.

But question for everyone, regarding the hijacker who stole the money? I thought after he helped him and came back, Hugh didn't remember anything about a story on him but now they discuss the story like it actually happened? Did anyone else catch that?

I think you're mixing up two different storylines.

Hugh still remembered the highjacker story and Dan had to tell him that the guy he was investigating had an alibi for the time of the highjacking so he didn't have a story.

It was the next episode, with the serial bomber, that Hugh didn't remember after Dan changed history. That was the one where Dan first encountered the two young boys whose father owned a garage. It looked like the older brother was going to be the trouble-maker, but Dan straightened him out and he grew up to take over their father's garage. The younger brother was a genius who went a little crazy (possibly driven there by his encounters with Dan) and started sending out letter bombs. After Dan convinced him to get help, history changed, and the bombings never happened, so there was no longer a story for Dan to be researching.

Pretty big fan of this show - the basic premise of it of course is very similar to Quantum Leap - but the fact that when Dan leaves the premise it causes all sorts of havoc as time still passes is what makes this show interesting. The impact on his relationship with his family, his job (which he seems to get away with far too much leeway at - but whatever) and even the fact that if he "Leaps" while driving - well that's just bad....these are the things that make it interesting.

And the fact that Dan himself is a pretty flawed hero - which is always more interesting.

Plus his girlfriend is pretty cute. Not the wife though.

Ahhh, that makes alot of sense. I was wondering why I was the only one thinking something fishy was up.
There are many different storylines going on in this show it's great, i just hope they are able to finish them off in the time given.

No, you arent the only one. But, you, me, and the people in this thread might be the only few.

NBC is threatening to cancel the show if the ratings dont improve in the next two weeks. I fear it will be another case of a good show getting cancelled just as it picks up momentum. Firefly, anyone?

I absolutely love this show. This is the first drama that I've stuck to on a consistent basis and I have not been let down. There was an article with Kevin Falls (the creator) a few weeks ago and he said that the writer's strike has actually helped them remain on the air, and that the ratings have been steadily increasing.

Firefly didn't pickup momentum until it was released on DVD. It was shown out of order at random times by Fox and canceled for poor ratings. Wonder why...

Journeyman started out pretty weak but has gotten stronger with each new episode. Hopefully it escapes the wake of the writers strike but I think it will be one of the first victims.

I am really hoping that last night's episode of Journeyman was not the final one that will be aired. They gave a "In two weeks" promo at the end of the show but it wasn't showing any new scenes. Chuck and Life got the call for nine new episodes (once the strike is over) but no mention of JM.

If you google "Save Journeyman" there are a lot of sites online, but I'm thinking NBC has already made their mind up about the show.

It's a shame, as last night's episode brought the awesome yet again.

Yeah... the show finally delivered it's major hook. Hopefully it doesn't get canned because Monday is the only night with worthwhile TV. If they get rid of Journeyman, I'll have to wait until 9pm for Chuck before I can watch something that won't cause eye bleeding.

Gotta love his brothers reaction at the end of the episode. Perfect delivery of the absolutly dumbstruck look, lol.

Maybe they could have billed this as a quasi Quantum Leap sequel to draw more viewers.

Well once again if it is cancelled blame viewers for not watching it - not NBC. Journeyman was given a pretty good marketing push, and most importantly a perfect lead in show. It simply hasn't held enough viewers from Heros and ultimately that the key decision factor. When you have a show that doesn't hold viewers from a natural lead in - its pretty much a done deal.

People suck.

Its a great show and if anyone watched the immensely awesome Rome on HBO you'll have a bigger appreciation for the guy.

Some of you might remember him in Trainspotting as well

I don't know how many people watched Jericho last year but again I hope Journeyman doesn't go the way of Jericho which was easily the most overlooked and awesome TV show last year besides Heroes.

No offence, but that's an absolutely awful idea. The show is brilliant because it's so much darker than Quantum Leap and focuses on more than just the time-travelling aspect.

I'm going to be really disappointed if this show gets cancelled. To Jiri's point, I wouldn't blame the viewers. I blame NBC's archaic way of collecting ratings info. One website I saw, showed that Journeyman's PVR and online viewership was actually quite high.

PVR and Online viewership don't mean anything to NBC because those people usually skip ads therefore no revenue.

It looks like we'll get at least three more episodes of Journeyman. Here's a message from the show's producer, Kevin Falls:

Journeyman Fans--

NBC has decided to air the 12th episode ("Perfidia") on Wednesday, December 19th at ten o'clock. That means our 10th episode will air on Monday the 10th ("Home by Another Way"), the 11th will air on 17th ("The Hanged Man").

The decision to air the 12th episode had a lot to do with the passion of our fans through SaveJourneyman.net, the online petition and letters and emails to NBC executives.

And is it true you can vote once a day for the People's Choice Awards?

There's still no news on our long term future, but we can promise you this: three terrific episodes inside of ten days. Oh, yeah, and you'll get some answers, too.

Your comments and pro-active attempts to save the show are very much appreciated by me and my fellow Executive Producer Alex Graves, Kevin McKidd and the cast, writers and crew. But more importantly, it's working.

But don't rest. We need you. We want a back nine--and beyond.

Thanks again,

Kevin Falls
