I can't honestly think of a real top ten list of albums this year but I know that the following would be on it.

Feist - The Reminder
Coheed and Cambria - *Really long title* No World For Tomorrow
Tegan and Sara - The Con
Corb Lund - Horse Soldier! Horse Soldier!
Matthew Good - Hospital Music

I won't do a list because I don't listen to that much music (I tend to get stuck on 3 albums and play them) but here are some thoughts on this year's release.

In Rainbows by Radiohead is my favorite this year. The first Radiohead album that was immediate to me. I loved it from the first listen. No weak links and the high points are just pure bliss.

I'm listening to Boxer right now. It's very passionate and subtle. One of my favorites from this year. I could see it being boring though.

We Were Dead... by Modest Mouse is another favorite. Some songs are weak but the high points of the album easily make up for it.

The White Stripes release is a little weird. I like it, even though sometimes it comes off as amusing (laughing with it, not at it) rather than good. Definitely some classics on there.

I was disappointed by Neon Bible. The lyrics were really wordy sometimes and I didn't feel it was anywhere close to Funeral. In fairness, Funeral set the bar so high that improving on it is no easy task. Again some classic songs.

Andrew Bird's release (Armchair Aprocrypha) is definitely one of my favorites. So freeflowing, deep and catchy.

I picked up the Allison Krauss & Robert Plant but haven't enjoyed it nearly as much as the hype had me think i would. Maybe it will grow on me?

Everyone knows that the music was diagnosed with deadly disease march 19, 1982 and he finally died with triumph when priest released Painkiller.

I only ever do Top 5 lists - IMO if it's not top-five good, who gives a sh*t

1. Radiohead - In Rainbows
2. Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
3. Interpol - Our Love to Admire
4. Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
5. Air - Pocket Symphony

Biggest disappointment of the year: the new Arcade Fire album. The National's album was decent - only seemed to revisit the song "Start a War" though. Really liked the Arctic Monkeys record the first few times but then it wore really thin. Wasn't ga-ga over the Shins' new one; their first two blow it away. Don't really 'get' MIA. Not into the new Foo Fighters the way I might like to be. Overall, nothing blew my mind this year.

Agree that the National-Boxer is ranked too high. Not nearly as good as Alligator; just decent.
Albums that come to mind quickly for me
-Radiohead
-Wilco
-Kanye West
-Common
-Peter, Bjorn & John

The two albums that stood out for me in 2007 were Springsteen's Magic and Arcade Fire's Neon Bible. Of course, the Arcade Fire album sounds so much like early Springsteen that it's natural to lump the two together.

Metacritic scores seem to get a bit skewed - electronica albums only get reviewed by electronica fans, and get unusually high scores.

They don't feature metal albums either.

Guess that explains a few things. I had never even heard of Stars of the Lid so I had to google them to find out who they are.

I must say, I'm a little dissapointed with the year. I'm having trouble even coming up with 5 albums worthy of listing.

The Shins album was most disappointing of the year I think. 2 great tracks, 2 good tracks, and the rest sucked. Rather than growing on me with time like their last album, Wincing the Night Away has exposed itself as mediocre.
