Anyone here work for the city of Calgary?
Hey, I'm sure someone here must work for the city of Calgary. I interviewed for an intern position with the City about 2 weeks ago. I've been in touch with the recruiter since last march so they know I'm very interested in the position. I had my interview, they said they would make a decision before Christmas.
The odd thing is the day after the interview the hiring manager called me and left a message saying that "everything is fine, we are having a meeting early next week and I should get back to you by the end of the week."That would have been the end of last week. I have not heard a thing since, I'm not really sure why they would call me the next day it kind of confuses me. I'm planning on checking up on things tomorrow, and I know the city is notorious for taking quite awhile when deciding these things (took about 2 months just to get the interview).
Has anyone had any experience with this? It will be 2 weeks tomorrow.

I work for the City, and I think that can be slow.
I wouldn't worry about it, especially this time of year, people could be away, sick etc.
I think that a follow up call is fine.

If you think that is bad, a friend of mine is in month eight of the process for her to get a civilian job with the RCMP.

I work for the federal government, and it took them 5 months to extend the contract I had previously been on for just two more months. So talk about redundant. I wouldn't be too worried.

I work the City of Calgary...I applied for a job in April and didn't hear back about said job until July, of which I started in August. 5 months it took for them, although I have to admit it was worth the wait. I quite like my job with them.
Although it doesn't help when the online application status stays at "final screen" for a good few months on end...

Yeah I've been at final screen for quite awhile myself.
Yeah this is definitely a position I want. I interviewed for it before but didn't have my degree at that time and since its an internship it seemed to be a sticking point. I have the degree they want, and I plan on taking more courses that are required for the job (additional diploma from UBC) if I get the job or not. The position requires you to do these courses while you do their internship, they know all this, so there isn't much more I can do to show my interest in the position I guess.
Yeah I applied for this job in October, I generally wouldn't be so concerned just yet, but I REALLLLY want this position. hah..

My wife works for the City. There was a very long gap between the time she applied for the job and the time they called her to setup an interview, but they gave her an offer the day after the interview.

Yeah I once applied around March for a summer position. They called me in July (same story someone else above had), I had already taken another job. I told them as much, the person calling understood - said sorry, that's just the way it is and she wished it was different.
Good luck though!

Add me into the group of city workers and a long application process (though mine did require some specialty checks)...but still took about 6 months from doing the online application to starting my first day.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's a little difficult to understand why the hiring process would take so long but it's even more frustrating when you work here and need help and it takes six months to get it.
I applied in early August last year and had applied in three different divisions. Two of them contacted me for interviews within two weeks of the job closing dates but the last one (the one I really wanted) didn't call me until a month after the closing. My first day on the job wasn't until February 8th this year.
As far as calling goes, I'd go ahead and find out what's going on. That online application thing was a bit of a joke and most people here understand that and would happily let you know where you stand.

And if you'd like to make mistakes with layers of additional approval than the city has your name all over it.

When I moved to my current job, I had two offers. The first took over 3 months to finally arrive and the second in about a week. I chose the second one because I was leaving a place that will drag things out unecessarily and needed a change.

To be honest for this position it is definitely more about the opportunity. It is a great opportunity for me to get into a career that I want, and one that works with my degree(s). I'm currently at a very very entry level job within the government which is fine, but the reason I took it is because of the opportunity, and the chances to advance, plus experience is always nice.
Honestly I'm not going to call, probably just fire off an e-mail today or tomorrow. The phone call the day after the interview is what kind of threw me off.

Congrats man! The city is a pretty good place to work, you'll get full benefits, and every third Friday off. I don't know what I'd do if none of that was covered! haha...
