You get the distinct impression these last few days that all those documents and computers they pulled out of Fallouja have given them some enormous intelligence insight into the insurgency.

Its like they're rolling up the carpet right now, going to specific places and finding specific people.

Another enormous difference from even six months ago is they now have sufficient committed Iraqi forces to take down all these mosques that were used as weapons caches and safe havens.

Al-Zarqawi's complaint that Mullah's aren't helping him anymore couldn't be more stark.

It sounds like this "weapons lab" is more like a make-shift lab made by amateur chemists and is not remnants from anything Hussein had. If this is indeed the case, I don't see this as an improvement in the Iraq War. If anything, it's a bad sign.

Number of chem weapon labs discovered from Hussein's reign -> 0
Number of chem weapon labs put up after Hussein's reign -> 1

That's not something to be optimistic about IMHO.

I'm not going "Woo Hoo, Chemical Weapons!!!" on the news.

I agree its minor.

I was referring to the trend since Fallouja and the implication of taking away a safe place for these groups plus the information derived that is helping on other fronts.

The lab itself is interesting and probably implies some intent rather than capability.

I was just about to post that it's hard to grumble that that is anything but good news and shows the campaign etc. is going well, when I read your post. Viewed like that it is rather strange news.

The Reuters report is a little more skeptical than CNN:

The Reuters story appears to be out of date.

It says the USA is unaware of the Iraqi discovery. The CNN report quotes a USA military official describing the contents of the laboratory.
