Default Broadband Wireless Internet mesh network starting in Canada

A company out of Vancouver seems to be offering wireless internet over a 20km radius, after successful beta testing in Abbotsford (BC).

I thought this was kind of cool

I hate Wireless internet with a passion. It's a good accessory but I would rather wire my home.

Would be cool to be on a bus or something and surf though, but for home use? Nah

I think packet loss is usually the problem....but I've seen good wireless internet with the same quality connection as a landline.

Is anyone concerned about the levels of EMF we're receiving in our bodies daily now?

I know they say a wireless connection doesn't give off enough to do anything to you, but if you walk through downtown you're probably standing in range of 100 wireless connections at once...not to mention your cell phone and tons of other wireless devices we carry today.

I switched to a wired network in my house. Much easier to troubleshoot, much more secure.

Well... there's probably a lot more than a 100 frequencies running through your body downtown... god knows how many different waves are passing through your brain this second. I've always wondered how all these waves/frequencies can be flying around without interacting with our bodies... who knows?

Keep in mind the broader implications. Currently for a high speed connection at home you are currently tied to a provider that already has lines coming into your house; like Shaw or Telus. With a reliable wireless option that means there can be more competition.

Plus it also allows people in rural areas or people in new communities within Calgary to be able to enjoy high speed internet.

You are so way behind. Even my parents, who think that microwave and videos are just useless modern junk have wireless LAN at their homes. I think it works in Wimax protocol and is basically only option in remote areas of Finland to reach broadband.

You should consider the signal strength and remember that your body is mostly made up of water. Water + RF = BAD for RF.

I've got a decent Wireless draft "n" network at home. Locked down with WPA2 and all that. With it I can stream content to my media centre while maintaining two other remote connections for general internet use.

Wireless networks arn't as awful as they used to be for sure!

Isn't visible light higher energy then radio frequencies? We are blasted by light quite a bit and it doesn't seem to have horrible effects on us. Aside from sunburns from UV

Just curious. I'm no physicist

My main beef with home wireless networks is this:

I used Wireless for 3 years, frustratingly... I decided to just wire the place due to the interference from neighbors, microwaves, ect.

I've also tried pretty much every wireless router known to man.

Wireless Internet is great, but I don't like it for the home.
