Default House break-ins

As a spinoff to the Car break-in thread...
Anyone here ever had their home robbed or had a home invasion?
This happened to our family 3 TIMES.
The first two were connected we figure, but I was in San Jose staying at my dads place and got a call from my mom here in Calgary, and our house on Dalhousie Drive was broken into while she was away for the weekend at her boyfriends place, alot of things were taken, so she feeling scared and stuff stayed at her boyfriends place for another couple days when the house got robbed AGAIN. We and the cops both figured that it was the same thieves returning to finish cleaning the place out, the cops took fingerprints from some spots in the house and where it looked like they broke in, but they never did find the thieves. Oddly enough, those two times weren't the the only time we got robbed, at another place we lived in in Dalhousie someone broke in from the balcony (1st floor apartment building) and stole our computer, this was maybe about 3 years before the double break in. It is kind of freaky when your house gets robbed, it's cliche but you do feel as if you got violated completely, not to mention alot of valuables of yours are gone, the only saving grace was at least they didn't hurt the cats and they didn't run off through the broken windows. Anyone else gone through anything like this? This happened in 2001 and 1998 but the car prowling thread reminded me of it...

Not really...

Our garage got "broken into". It is a detached garage, we never lock the door. From what we cant tell, they took a garage door opener, sunglasses, and some hedge clippers. I wish they took a few of the goddamn bikes we have. About 10 of them. Didn't really feel "violated", more bewildered. What's the point unless you take something valuable?

My house got broken into quite awhile ago (maybe 6 years). It wasnt that big of a deal they took some expensive jewlery, alcohol (we have a bar with alcohol on the shelves but we never drink it unless its a special occasion), and thats all. They didnt break anything, the only bad thing was muddy boots on white carpet

One of my friends who used to work at a pet store told me some of the valuable fish have a chip in them that can track wherever they are. This would be a great idea for other valuable items in the house. I wonder if any company does this kind of thing?

If people could tag their computer, or big screen TV, at least they could get it back, and tell the police exactly where to find it.

When we lived in Abbeydale 15 to 20 years ago we were broken into twice. Apparently the house was broken into a third time a couple weeks after we moved. The first time we were broken into was no big deal ... they must have been interrupted because nothing was taken. The second time the took a lot of stuff, including some irreplaceable family heirlooms. There are two types of people I cannot abide ... liars and goddamn thieves. Especially goddamn thieves. The cops had zero interest in doing anything about it too, even though I'm pretty sure the culprits were the lowlife druggies who lived next door. Whatever ... the experience left a bitter taste in my mouth. If it ever happens again and I catch the creeps in the act or have reasonable evidence to prove who did it, the first thing I do will NOT be to call the cops. I'd rather get my stuff back.

Never had my house broken into, but when I was in university, my roommate used to leave our door unlocked all the time and eventually we had some stuff stolen. Nothing irreplacable fortunately, just some movies, clothes, perfume, little stuff like that.
