Ok the title is misleading, but the Ducks did trade for an upgrade. Coming to Anaheim is the best friend of GM Ravi Patel, Alex Tanguay.

To the Ducks:
Alex Tanguay

To the Wild:
Thomas Vanek

We had to part with this young stud to get a player like Tanguay who is doing well in the NHL this year. He is a personal favorite of the GM and combined with that is a great performer and should help this team a lot. He is still youngish at 27 years old and we believe will keep his rating and be a great leader on the team next year.

The only issue now is who do we play with Erat-Tanguay who can put the puck in the net???

Well the Wild did this for 2 reasons.

1. We believe Vanek is among the best pure offensive talents in the league. 2
2. He is signed for 3 years, Tanguay is not and we already have an assload of RFAs for next season.

However this screws up our vet/rook ratio - as such will probably look to move Cammy or Michalek for a vet upgrade.

Interesting deal. Vanek's a solid young player with one great year in the NHL, while Tanguay is certainly an established talent in the NHL with several good years under his belt and at 28 years old, isn't exactly old.

I like it for the Wild for the reasons Grant mentioned. Both are awesome offensive players but Vanek is younger and most importantly has another 2 years at under $5 million. Tanguay will need a pretty good raise this summer.
