I have 2 stickers on my mailbox, nice and clear and in plain veiw.
NO FLYERS
NO JUNK MAIL
Yesterday I open my box to find a Canadian Tire flyer which is more like a catalog along with 2 other pieces of junk. Every week is like that tons of junk.
I know that Canada Post get paid to deliver this crap, but I don't want it. Why do the mail carriers ignore my stickers?

I'm not in your city so it's important to me. Besides, I'm in muni politics and I think you folks do care about that.

My friend's stickers work great, mine do absolutely zero for me. It's so annoying going from the mailbox straight to the paper recycling bin by the dumpster to get rid of 90% of my mail.

Collect your junk mail. Then throw it in a big envelope and mail it to your MP with a letter explaining you want Canada Post to obey your wishes that you dont want junk mail. (A letter to the MP in Ottawa doesnt require postage.)
Didnt you guys see on the news recently where mailmen were getting in trouble for not delivering junk mail? This is a big revenue generator for CanadaPost.
My MP must love all the junk mail he gets.

actually you can't do that anymore. it is now illegal for any post office or postal employee to deliver some mail but not others. the junk mail people pay the postage just like everyone else so their mail has to get delivered too. it was in the paper about a month ago. apparently the companies who mail out flyers were pretty pissed off at Canada Post because like i said they pay the postage too. essentially what you are asking your mail deliverer to do is tamper with your mail.
i don't like junk mail either but hey they paid the postage they should get it delivered the same as everyone else. that being said you should be able to refuse mail from certain senders but this would only create the same problem as trying to block spam from your email account, they'll just keep on changing the sender name.

I get home minutes ago and walk up to my mailbox, through the little slot I can see that it's full. Just packed with mail, so I get pretty excited thinking those video games I ordered finally came in.
I open up, huge flyers from Freson Market and Shoppes of Brittania Plaza, nothing else. Straight in the garbage.
God and baby Jesus help me!!!

Havent you got that email about the guy who stuffs other junk mail into the reply envelopes and sends them back to them?
He then sticks like 38 cents so that the return postage costs more, then when they call to complain to him he demands his 38 cents back?
If I got a ton of junk mail I would do that!!!

Probably because they can get in trouble for not delivering it. That is the case here in the States for sure. Trust me, we hate the junk mail as much if not more than you do.
When I say 'we' I mean letter carriers.

I used to put a huge sticker on my mailbox. When that didn't work I put a recycle box underneath and instructed the mail carrier to put the junk mail in there.

That stuff gets heavy. Might as well set up a 55 gallon drum in front of your house and leave some matches for the mailman.
What a massive waste of paper and what a huge pain in the ass for the carriers who have to haul that extra weight around.

Any of the junk mail that has an address on it gets sent back to the originator. I write return to sender and drop it in the mailbox at the end of the street

One thing I do with junk mail is mail back all of the postage paid envelopes that I get. At least it costs the junk mailer return postage as a penalty. If I have the time, I'll stuff the Amex garbage in the Capital One envelope, the Capital One garbage in the CIBC envelope, the Rogers junk in the Telus envelope etc. I make sure a load up the envelopes with as much other junk as possible too to max out the weight ... if the weight is over 50 grams they pay more postage, if it's over 100 grams it's more again. It's a bit petty, but it gives me some satisfaction to know they have to pay to get all their garbage back.
