Default Turducken...

Anyone ever had one before? My brother-in-law keeps mentioning it during Thanksgiving and Christmas, and there is a place in Canmore that specializes in it, but $23/kg for a 7-10 kg turducken makes for a rather pricey bird.

P.S. For those of you who don't know, turducken = turkey + duck + chicken

There is a meat shop on 4th st, by Ducky's, that also makes them by special order (unless the meat shop is gone, of course).

I've always wanted to try one myself. So pricey! Mind you, since everything has a tendency to taste like chicken anyway, why not just get one big honkin' chicken?

Seems like a lot of money for a food product that starts with "turd".

I do that for thanksgiving every year, and to be honest I think its so much better and tastier then the standard roasted turkey.

The only problem is that your not cooking stuffing in the bird.

This Christmas we're going to try to BBQ a turkey and see how that turns out.

Sometimes though, I'd prefer to order pizza instead of taking hours with meal prep.

Re: Deep Fried Turkey - do you use a special deep fryer? I was in Seattle last weekend and saw them selling "Turkey Deep Fryers" at Walmart (in the main aisle, right beside the giant containers of Crisco ) -- do they have something like that in Canada? I was going to buy one (it was like $37 and just looked like a big pot); but didn't want to lug it back on the plane!

All it is a big pot, using a propane burner to heat it. Should have it around up here somewhere. We have one that we use a few times a year. Turkey tastes great from it, and you can use it to boil corn and stuff as well.

We use it to make chicken wings, and we've done fish fries by using the basket.

My gf also makes home made donuts in it at christmas so that the christmas day breakfeast has hot fresh donuts.

gaaahhhh!!!

Turducken is solely responsible for the physical state in which only John Madden can exist.

Watching that man eat Turducken every year makes me want to vomit.

In the new deerfoots meadows center (IKEA, Best Buy, Costco etc...) there is that giant Sporting goods store beside the Brick, and I saw them in there... there are probably other places you can get them... but they are definately available.

we tried to make 1 ourselves a couple years ago, but we couldn't find a turkey, so used a goose instead (gooducken). Was pretty fun doing the de-boning work but we got carried away with the flavoring and the fondue cheese center made it taste weird. We also burned it, but was fun. Would be nice to try eating a good one some day.

Haha really? I remember when they surprised him with a Turducken on Monday Night Football back in 2003 and it was the single funniest Maddenism Ive ever seen! The way he used his hand like a knife to split it down the middle, and then the way he just grabbed it and ripped it apart, all the while with the "gobble-gobble-gobble" sound effects going on in the background...oh man, we were all on the floor we were laughin so hard! That clip really needs to be on Youtube.

I fail to see the humour in watching a senior citizen inhale a festive food product that is borderline toxic.

Like the guy doesnt have enough problems. I'd have loved to see him explain that cholesterol level with his doctor after.

Doc: I think you're deviating from your veggie diet John.
JM: I'm not I swear.
Doc: I've seen the footage John. Along with half the country.
JM: Crap.

I'm glad you provided the link. For a second I thought there was some kind of crazy cross-breeding thing you guys had going on out west here. *sigh of relief*
