Beowulf 3D!
Dude, this movie is crazy. I just got back from IMAX 3D and the visuals are flat out stunning. This is almost a must see in my books. Great action, excellent animation, ageless story, star power in Malkovich, Hopkins, and ...sigh, Jolie. (She's sooo almost naked in this.)
I still don't understand what it is about computer animated people that looks so soulless and empty. It seems like they have everything right, down to the most minute detail... but I just don't know what it is.
Someone else has to have seen this flick though.
PS... i searched for this, but if it is a fata I am sorry.

It's probably the eyes, if you compare them to say... the people in Half Life 2, they (half life 2 characters) look more realistic.

I saw it, and I'd have to say that if it weren't for the 3D effects, I wouldn't have been impressed.
That being said, I would suggest everyone see it in 3D. Normal theater, though, not so much.

I saw it in a normal theatre with some friends, and the whole time I was pissed off that we weren't seeing it in 3D.

Yeah its true. I just google imaged "Half life 2" and I must say, they look more realistic simply because their eyes are much much better. Its disappointing they didnt get that right in Beowulf.

I can't remember the name of the phenomenon but there is some scientific theory that posits an explaination as to why we have an adverse reaction to "realistic" human computer graphics such as those in Beowulf and that Tom Hank's Christmas Train movie (?).
Basically, we process an enourmous amount of minute details when analysing and constructing a human face. If a good chunk of that subtle information is missing, the image becomes an uncomfortable and unnatural representation of a real human being. We have trouble accepting that image as a representation of a real human being. That said, the more cartoonish the image, the more endearing the image becomes.
I wish I could remember the name of the theory or at least find an article about it!

And yet, the aversion disappears when these same images appear in print or in paintings. Go figure.

After reading Beowulf in my first year of university, and learning about the history behind it, I am stoked to see the movie! If only I didn't have term papers to deal with!

Haha Highlight for spoilers! Decent movie, it was pretty good animation IMO.
The best part of the movie is where he screams out his own name coming out of the Sea monster. Seriously, what else would you yell?

I thought it was bollocks, I defintely won't watch it again. I thought it was dull, the movie just didn't have any....soul, if that's a way to put it. Live actors would have been better, IMO.
Then again, I didn't see it in 3D, so I could be wrong.
