Buying a Super Nintendo
So I made quite a blatant hint to the girl that I'd like a Super Nintendo for Christmas, along with a couple games(Ken Griffey Jr Baseball(best sports game ever) and NHL'95). An old work buddy of mine(who Ive lost touch with and lost his #, so I can't check back with him) bought one last spring for $60, so I thought that with the games, the gift can't come to more than $100.
But I was just talkin to my sister tonight and she said she saw em at flea markets for $300, and saw games as expensive as $120. If this is the case, I gotta pick a new present to get from my gf, thats a little extreme(plus I dont wanna have to match that gift ).
Anyone know which is right? Or where I can get a decently priced(ie under $100) Super Nintendo?(preferably in Edmonton).

Cash Converters would be a great idea if you're ok with a second hand system.

I second the cash converters man. They've probably got a stack of them you can buy for cheap.

I asked at Cash Converters during the summer and was told they usually average a system per week.

Check Video Game Trader, there are 3 locations now I think.Center St, 17ave se, and Macleod. It wont be your bargain basement stuff, but it wont be a rip job like $300, and there is a warranty. He may not carry stuff that old anymore though, I havent been in there for a few years now.

Just don't bring it with you to Italy and plug it in. It may throw all the breakers in your flat AND fry the system.

YES!!! I completely agree. That game is unbelievable... years and years of fun.
There was one other baseball game for snes that had a cool feature where if there was a close play at a bag they zoomed in on the play. As the runner you had to slide your hand left, right, or down the middle, and as the fielder you would sometimes have to guess where the guy was gonna. A really cool feature to a baseball game, which I never saw replicated.

Yes again! Although NHL '96 was my game of choice. Those games were instrumental in getting through the Flames dry spell of the 90's.
Great choices.
NHL Stanley Cup. There was a game with horrible game-play but I remember being absolutely blown away by the 3D graphics. And who could forget NBA jam.
Btw, one more sports game you should think about asking for. PGA Tour Golf, 1993, if you're a golf fan it is a must have game.

I was a genesis player as a kid so I did'nt play as much SNES.
I have an SNES emulator and 750 or so games and I had no idea there was so many good titles.
It all only takes up 1 gig of space, I can play it through my tv with an S-video cable, and I use a 360 controller. You can even get cheats for the games too. (On the nes one, it was very satisfying taking a hundred punches from Tyson then knocking him down with one punch!)

Nice! NBA Jam, totally forgot about that one, another one to add to the list once I get the system. So far I think I need NHL '95, Griffey, NBA Jam, Street Fighter II, and Super Mario Kart...possibly WWF Royal Rumble too. As for Stanley Cup, I liked that game when I was playing it, but when I'd just watch two other people play I'd get dizzy with the spinny screen. For some reason I wouldnt notice it as much when I was playin.
Thanks for all the help guys! I should send this thread as a direct link to the girl

Buy a sega dreamcast from Cash Converters and then download games. My brother in law has a disc with roughly 300-400 Super Nintendo games on it that play great on the Dreamcast.

VGT wont be a rip job? Are you kidding me? I asked about Uniracers for the SNES about a year or two ago... $80.
Ebay... $5 plus shipping.
I remember the people that run the Centre St. VGT bought PS2 from the Blockbuster I worked for, cause they didn't/couldn't order enough when they first came out, then hiked up the price. I hate that place.
