Default Too Sexy for Southwest Airlines?

Generally, I'm left slack jawed at what girls of high school age are wearing at the malls and movie theatres, but how little is too much?
Could a young woman board a flight to Tucson today wearing a bikini top? Angelique, the agent who took my call, assured me that a young woman could. “We don't have a problem with it if she's covered up in all the right spots,” she said. “We don't have a dress code.”

Tell that to Kyla Ebbert, who was escorted off a Southwest Airlines flight two months ago for wearing an outfit far less revealing than a bikini top. Ebbert, a Mesa College student and Hooters waitress, was allowed to stay on the plane, but only after she put up a fight and, she says, was lectured on how to dress properly.

“My daughter is young, tall, blond and beautiful,” Michele Ebbert told me, “and she is both envied and complimented on her appearance. She dresses provocatively, as do 99 percent of 23-year-old girls who can. But they were out of line.”
Who knows where the lines are drawn these days, particularly when it comes to dress? If you watch television, or visit the mall, or take in a game at Petco Park, you'll see women dressed in ways that, 50 years ago, were pornographic. Today they are stylish.

I wouldn't have filed a complaint by any means. Hell, when I was single and a consultant in the air all the time I used to dream about this. But seriously, who the hell dresses like this for a doctor's appointment? It's got to be a plastics surgeon.

I remember a Grade 8 math teacher reaming out a girl who came to class in a "hooker suit", short one piece skirt/top in stretch material. Nowadays, I doubt she'd even raise an eyebrow. Of course, jeans (rolled up hems) and a Cotton Ginny sweatshirt were in vogue...

To answer the inevitable "This thread is useless without pictures", yes, there's a picture in the story. There's also a video of her on the Today show out there, but I won't link to it as she inadvertenly flashes Matt Lauer enough of an upskirt they blurred out replays...

I still think it is important to remember that she was on a PUBLIC flight and her clothes were inappropriate for a flight with children on it. I heard she is probably going to sue Southwest for this but she was still able to take the flight. It is one thing to dress that way if you are going out to pick up a guy in the bar and its another when you are on a flight.

I really don't get the problem here....I see that type of outfit on a plane pretty much every summer flight.

Hell, I see that type of outfit at work during the summer.

And sign me up for the flight with the girls in the bikini tops...

I agree. I see nothing wrong with that outfit at all. Besides, it's really just legs she's showing. Is that such a big deal?

We're really terribly conservative about our bodies here in North America.

It's a good thing she didn't wear this on the plane then.

If she was wearing the outfit shown in the original story, I don't see anything wrong with that for flying. The skirt might be a little short, but considering how close the seats are on a plane, and there aren't any seats facing each other, it's not like anyone could get an accidental (or intentional) "upskirt" peek.

I have always maintained that I can't believe it's not OK to show people's bodies here in North America ... but it's perfectly fine to see people suspended from meat hooks in movies or tortured horrendously ... such bizarre priorities people have.

As if kids aren't going to see girls in mini skirts out on the streets, or pretty much everywhere else in the world. It's a ridiculous thing to make a fuss over. It's not as if the girl was wearing lingerie or see through clothing.

Oh my god no, she's got legs...and she's showing them...what are we gonna do?

Keith, the customer service agent must be gay. there is no way a straight guy would ever try and throw her off a plane.

Lol actually in the video I saw with an interview with her and her mom and lawyer on the news, when she sat back down that's exactly what you saw!

Oh no, white cotton panties! The depravity!

Another example of attention whore syndrome. I mean as a guy I certainly wouldn't be offended by a flash of panty or whatever, but to me she just looks like another girl who's aspriing to a career as a vivid girl.

Sometimes a little mystery is better then the package coming without wrapping.

My biggest concern is that she should probably stop tanning, because she does not look 23 at all. 32 maybe.

It's a stupid complaint and a stupid lawsuit. You got to take the flight, let it go.

Hmmm, still that's a pretty nice backside. I could write a novel about it.

She was getting on a flight, not teaching Sunday school.

Not only has the airline humiliated and alienated a customer, now they are getting all kinds of negative press. I guess the "think of the children!!!" crowd might be favorably impressed, but that loud, stupid group is far less common than their braying suggests.
