Default Calgary Police

Are there any members of the Calgary Police on this board? If so, please PM me. I'm interested in applying and am wanting some first hand knowledge from someone.

Thanks.

Are you sure they take Canuck fans?

Seriously--good luck, man. It's a tough row to hoe, but a vital public service. I hope you make it.

Bonus points for you! Never hurts to have a (future) cop on your side!

Being a police officer is something I couldn't do, but respect those that are.

You see the 10% of the worst things that happen, 100% of the time. But at the same time, the respect from the community as a whole would be nice I would think (when I worked the CIS Soccer Championships I just let the police officers in for free, they're gonna scratch our backs, I'm gonna scratch theirs). Any dealings with the police I've had have been positive, from being carted around in the back seat on my 18th birthday (it was for school), to giving the statement about my car accident, to even turning over security tapes, they've been positive.

Mind you I don't live in Calgary, all the cops there could be ######bags :P

Actually, the one time I dealt with the Calgary Police Department, they were awesome. I was on the red mile and had no idea where I was going. While watching the crowd I went up to one guy and said "excuse me, but I'm not from around here, how do I get to the closest C-Train station?" He was super in giving directions and being friendly in the process.

Good Luck (and only give warnings to skinny white boys with glasses from Nova Scotia)

Well, with the Calgary Police, just don't do anything that would provoke a situation. Then you're good. I've seen them in action, and they don't ease up just because they're from Calgary. I had a friend who unknowingly got into a stolen car with some friends, and the next thing he knew he was being thrown down on the cement by undercover cops, and they were jamming knees in his back, which resulted in a back injury. Also, when I worked on the corner of 7th ave and 8th st (yes, the Crack Macs corner), they often times walked around like the Gestapo, and just as vicious when there was a loitering vagrant or a group of kids.

I doubt any canuck fans could pass the drug test.

You should be one of the downtown bicycle police. They may not get to roll around in cruisers but these guys get by far the coolest gear. Saw a group of them taking down a shoplifter outside HMV, I thought it was SWAT at first... but then I saw the bicycles.

I have been pulled over only once, and that was for a non-working left turn signal, I made a deal with the cop that he tear up the ticket if I head over the Canadian Tire to the left of us and buy a new one. He looked, smiled and was like, you knew and you were going there weren't ya? I said yeah, he said have a good day and walked back to his car. I drove in the parking lot, and went in to the store. The rest as they say is history.

oh and Mayer...i hear the VPD needs to hire 200 more recruits before 2010...and they are having issues finding people, maybe that is a better option? I mean on a cops salary you wouldnt be able to afford to live anywhere near Vancouver, but you would be able to at least work there..

Yeah. My courier route is right around there and I see cops there every day.

It's true. Although I'm not sure what the VPD pays, the CPS starts you at around $52 000, and after 5 years you're making almost $80 000. Thats not too bad.

That being said, I do see you're point.
