Default Want to own a English soccer team for 35 pounds?

Hopefully this isn't a fata. Mods, if you would like to put this in the 'other sports' forum please move. I thought it might be of interest to more members so put it here.

Anyway, I thought this was a really interesting idea. You can own a share in an English soccer team, Ebbsfleet United. They play in the English conference only one step away from the professional football league. For your 35pnds per year you get to have a single vote on team selection, transfers, general running of the club etc. People from foreign countries are welcome to join too.

I'm definitely going to consider buying in. What a great way to give sports back to the average fan. It will certainly be interesting to see how this will work in practice.

Comments?

edit: For you anal spelling types, apologies for the 'a' instead of 'an' in the title. Too fast on the trigger.

The last time I looked I thought it was UK only. Im actually pretty surprised they found a team to take over. When it was in the news a year ago it seemed like a crazy idea that would never materialize.

Sounds a little stupid to me. There is a reason people with specific skills are appointed to make certain decisions. Imagine if everyone on CP got a right to vote on player trades. we'd have someone new being shipped out after every loss.

Well right now there are over 53,000 owners so you would like to think that a general consensus would not make rash decisions. Maybe they will. Who knows? Interesting idea though and something completely different than we've seen before.

So if enough people want them to sign Thierry Henry they will have to do it?

Hmm, methinks Henry would certainly light up the English Conference!

How many more people would have to sign up to be able to afford him? Another ctwo or three million would be a start

Forget Henry, I can see some clown like Cantona, Gazza, Vinnie Jones or Bruce Grobbelar getting their ugly mugs involved in this for some cheap press.

Didn't Drew Carey, one of the owners of the expansion Seattle MLS team, talk about something like this on Monday Night Football, for his club? Buying a membership and having a annual vote on various issues? Or was he blowing hot air?

According to the FAQ, we can buy in, and become scouts.

Absolutely. Overseas members are positively encouraged. This will also help the club’s scouting network.

This seems like quite a interesting concept. If I was into soccer I would be all over it.
