Did anybody else see this thread title and wonder why Bingo wanted to put a starter in his computer memory? Or am I the only geek?

I had a quick moment there where I thought Bingo was looking to put a remote starter in his computer, just for those long cold nights. =)

I've had a couple of Viper autostarts put in by Autotemp in the NE. Never had any problems. Don't know if they are the cheapest in town but I was happy with the end results.

I had a car starter put in and was told that they would do a way better install job than anywhere else. A year later, and $400 at the dealership because my engine light was on and my boost guage was reading incorrectly, and I now have a remote starter ripped out and put in my trunk because it was a loose wire from the install causing the problem. Basically I was up near $1000 for one winter worth of car starting. The shop, Custom Auto, was out of business by the time this happened. This happened to my friend at all from Future Shop. Dealer had to rip his out too.

Future shop botched one on me a few years ago, but it was on a manual tranny, so I'm not sure if that partly justifies it.
I don't know if Neeper is still in the business, but he installed one on my automatic truck 3 years ago and it's still working fine. And it was cheap. $150 including parts and labour. Auto starter and power locks.

I was thinking about putting one into my car as well. A major reason I haven't is that I suspect that it might effect my warantee because it's a modification to the engine. Does anybody know if that is the case?

Not gonna lie I read it that way at first too....
I got mine done in Victoria before I moved to Calgary and I loved it out there. It was nice to jump into a nice warm car.
One little thing I do is once I get home for the night I crank on the heaters so when I start it up in the morning they automatically turn on and it melts off the windows and its like a sauna in there

And winter isn't the only time they're great. I have dark leather interior, tinted rear windows and dark green exterior. Precooling the truck in the summer is very nice.
And, awesome use #3 would be camping. I use my truck as my tent. Fold down the back seat and toss in an air mattress. I hang the keys on one of the overhead hooks so that if me or the woman wakes up a little chilly, just start the truck. It has an automatic kill that kicks in after 10 minutes.

Yeah, avoid Future Shop at all costs. Not only did they bungle my install, they busted the pull cord to the latch to get the hood open, so I couldn't even get at the thing!

Maybe its just me, but I would find a better way to warm up

Yup, but to his credit, it was his former business partner that botched it. All service I got from Neeper himself was great. So I might spare him the beating this time...

I had Quinn security put one in a car I had. Not a bad job but they sure do pressure you for upgrades.
I had Autotemp (in the NE) put one in another car, and it is still working fine 5 years later.

I had mine done at Neeper's for $300 because he said they'd have a lifetime warranty on the labour, 1 year later he folded and the connection came lose so I had to go get it fixed at Autodream for another $200. Neeper's a great guy & all but that really left a bad taste in my mouth.
