Not talking about North American bands. Let's hear your favorite foreign bands.
One of my favorites...
Chatmonchy!
a 3 girl band consisiting of a bass player, electric guitarist, and a drummer. The lead singer has a very interesting child like voice that some people may find annoying at first, but begin to warm up to it the more you listen. These girls rock.
What's great about these bands is that they are seemingly 3 very ordinary looking girls who are huge successes, due to nothing other than their music.
For those of you that follow bleach, you'll recognize this song.

Well I'm a big time metalhead... so I guess this won't really work for me as apparently 73% of the albums on my iPod come from foreign artists.

+1. I love Sigur Ros. I'm Icelandic, so I guess I'm supposed to like them, but they are also awesome. They're a big part of my dissertation-writing playlist.
For me, a lot of the bands I like are foreign. I'm a fan of Air and Stereolab, both French, and then Frou Frou, Billy Bragg, The Pogues and The Clash, (not to mention Coldplay and Radiohead) from those rainy isles to the north. (I know, some of those are really old--but so am I...) The list kind of goes on and on for me.
There's another Icelandic artist that hasn't really made the "jump" over yet called "Mugison." Check him out at http://www.mugison.com/. Seriously-you won't regret it.
I've recently discovered the Lostprophets, a Welsh band that actually sings the song Rooftops which they play with the one Flames intro video. Although the song isn't totally representative of much of their music as they've been all over the map with their three albums.
