Default Gift Ideas for the Mother that has everything

My mother's birthday is tomorrow and I have no idea what to get her as she's not an easy person to buy for. Every year my brother and dad have extreme trouble coming up with thoughtful things. So I'm turning to the CP oracle to provide any neat thoughtful ideas I might be able to use. My brother also posts here (lambeburger) and he would probably ask the same question.

Yeah she's got one of those too. Good idea though. My dad got her one of those as a gift last year and I was jealous I didn't think of that.

Try a Raclette. I'm actually giving my mom one for her birthday. It's a traditional Swiss meal (read: cook your own), but is totally awesome. You can use the stove to make breakfast and dinner.

Best place in town to get them is at Springbank Cheese Company. I bought mine and the one for my Mom at the location on 14th Street and I think 20th Ave.

For my moms 50th, me and my brothers got all dressed up, along with her grandkiddies, and got a portrait photo done. We put it in a nice silver frame that we had engraved. We had never had any professional family portraits or anything like that before, so she really liked it.

I got my mom a vase from the Nova Scotian Crystal Gallery in Art Central on 8th Ave and Centre St downtown.

But... she is from Nova Scotia and has been talking about starting a collection for months now, so it was a bit of an empty-netter. But the product really is beautiful and it is the only place outside of Halifax that you can buy it, so it is pretty unique.

Flowers. You can never go wrong giving any woman flowers.

Put in some nice sunflowers etc and make it nice and cheery, and then add some little line in a card that says how you feel about your mom. If you want to buy a little something extra, get a very simple yet classic clear glass vase, try a place like Bowring etc.

Gifts dont have to be big, they dont have to be extravagant. They just have to show that you remembered and that you care.

How old. What is her life like, is she retired / work part time / etc.

My mom is a Nurse (LPN actually but I say nurse cause it sounds better). She has recently started on the whole "internets" thing. When I am at work she is constantly msn'ing me things. Like whats the weather like in Calgary, when are you getting married, I have this nurse I foudn for you - I showed her your picture blah blah blah - things like that which make you wish you never singed them up for this msn messenger in the first place.

But anyways, back to topic. I got her a netbook with webcam. She loves that thing. Takes it to work to surf the web when she is on break (instead of what she did before, who knows what). I got it for her last March, so that would have been her 54th ? birthday so not a big milestone but none the less.

The year before I (me, my dad, and my brother) booked her and my sister a 2 day spa weekend in Banff). I find that with a younger sister, its always good to get her a gift as well at random times. It also works out well with my mom so then she isnt alone when she does that stuff
