In what took literally 2 minutes to finalize, the state rival New York Rangers and New York Islanders agreed to a trade late Sunday evening that breaks down as follows:
To Isles: Sergei Samsonov + 2.5M
To Rangers: Jiri Hudler + 4th Round Pick
In Samsonov, we know we acquire a guy with extreme talent but also an extreme lack in work ethic. A slight upgrade in OV for a young player who we think will be a solid 2nd liner in the NHL who just wasn't contributing enough for us right now.

Samsonov had been a SIM god for the past couple of years. But he's off to a bit of a bad start so far this year. Perhaps a move to the Island will be enough to get him going.
Rangers once again had to make a tough decision Sergei is a pending UFA which would not be ressigned due to his age and his current struggles at the NHL level.
So the plan was to move him for a talented younger forward.
Rangers believe Mr Samsonov can be a solid player for the Islanders.
