Anyone here back country ski?

Ive been wanting to get some alpine touring gear but Im getting a little hesitant. We were out snowshoeing earlier this year up at Bow Summit when a group of skiers got caugt in an avalanche but was able to get out OK.

CALGARY/AM770CHQR - Two back country skiers are dead, buried in an avalanche in k-country....
the two back-country skiers were skiing in the northeast bowl of tent ridge when the avalanche struck. They were recovered at the scene -- both were dead. The mounties witholding names and hometowns until next-of-kin have been notified.

I knew one of the two men that didn't make it, he was a team-mate and friend of mine.

They had all the right avalanche gear.

Whatever you do, take the avalanche safety course 1st, with the guys you plan to ski with. That way you're all on the same page, and hopefully know the risk tolerances and habits of everyone.
