Ducks-Hawks deal
The Ducks began the first deal out of hopefully many that will be made with the new Hawks GM. A trade was made that was pretty lateral for both squads, the change was made by the Ducks because of salary issues next year.
To the Ducks:
Alyn McCauley
Viktor Kozlov
To the Hawks:
Mike Sillinger
Steve Rucchin
3rd 08
2.5 mill this year
The move is a swap of soon to be retirees unless one GM gets lucky, McCauley is a 76DF so for however long he plays for us he should be a strong addition to the pk. Kozlov is a 1OV drop on Sillinger but we had to throw in a 3rd and some cash to help compensate for the 3 year, 18 million dollar contract that comes with Mike. This frees up some cap space next year which can be put to good use, also takes away the risk of Mike because if he rerates lower we were stuck with his contract, if Kozlov rerates lower then we just resign him at a lower price because he is a pending UFA. But we know Kozlov is the face of the NHL and will produce at a stellar rate for years to come!
Now that I've explained my thinking about this deal, it would be nice to hear comments from Chicago and GMs around the league.
Thanks Dan for the nice trade talks!
