Senators avoid the Blues.
Pulling off a 5-3 win
The game started off in doubt when Forsburgh swept into our zone and scored the games first goal 56 seconds in.
The Senators were able to rebound 5 minutes later when Marty Havlat took a cross ice pass from Sakic to beat a helpless Joseph.
The 2nd saw the Senators take the lead. Varda scored the go ahead goal 1:19 into the 2nd period and a nice passing play by Daigle.
Hartnell increased that lead 21 seconds later as Daigle again made a sweet pass to a Streaking Harntell who went in all alone on Joseph and beat him High blocker side.
Forsburgh scored his 2nd goal of the game late in the period to pull the Blues to within one
The 3rd saw the Blues Tie the game just over 3 minutes in. This was short lived however as Defensemen Todd Simpson scored his 2nd goal of the season.
Daigle scored his lines 3rd goal the insurance goal at the 10:05 mark of the period
This line was on fire tonight with Each player collecting a goal and 2 assists.
Next up a Game VS the Mighty Blue Jackets.

Roman Turek 1 Phoenix Coyotes 0
Avs unbeaten in 11 and win 8th straight thanks pretty much solely to Turek. He stopped 31 shots en route a shut-out to leave the Coyotes heart-broken as they yielded only 17 shots on Khabibulin.
Sedins 4th of the year came on the Power Play in the 2nd with helpers the continually impressive Beaudoin and solid d-man Denis Gauthier. The Avs penalty killing was again stellar, stopping all 7 man-advantages for the desert-dogs. Colorado converted the telling goal on one of its 6 power-plays.
Avs are second in the league, a point back of the Thrashers with two games in hand and 3 clear of the Wild in the Howe Conference with both teams having played 15 times.
Avs power-play has slipped to 5th but their pk unit remains the best in the league. With this being the first of 6 games in as many nights tho Turek cant play them all and the streak will end sooner rather than later.

A Good Start
Wild Start Hellish Week Off With a Win
It’s been circled on the Wild calendar since the 2004/2005 schedule was released.
7 games in 7 nights, including match-ups against tough Eastern teams such as the Rangers and Bruins, and two games against the Conference leading Avalanche.
Indeed, this is a tough stretch for the Wild.
However, they must feel a little better about things after an impressive 5-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs to begin the series of games. Sami Kapanen led the way with 2 goals on the night, along with singles from Brendan Morrison, Yannik Tremblay, and Jan Hrdina. Jocelyn Thibault had a shaky first two periods giving up 3 goals on twenty shots, however he turned in a very strong third period stopping all 10 shots he faced.
GM and Head Coach Grant Farhall was pleased with the team’s efforts.
“It was a typical win for us. Solid defensive play, balanced scoring and timely saves – that’s our recipe and as long as we stick to it we will be successful”.
The Wild next face the Colorado Avalanche tomorrow. It was unclear who would get the start in net for the Wild.
Game Notes
-Winger Radek Dvorak, playing his last game as a member of the Wild, went out in style with a 2 assist evening.
-Blueliner Dan Hamhuis also had 2 assists and led the Wild with a +3 on the night.
-The Wild powerplay was 0 for 3 on the night and has suddenly gone cold, going a combined 0 for 12 in the last two games. Hamhuis has also shown more discipline since joining the Wild, taking only 6 minutes in 5 games, as opposed to 34 minutes in his 10 previous games with the Red Wings and Bruins.
-Richard Zednik’s point scoring streak came to a halt at 6 games. Jan Hrdina now has the longest streak on the team with 5.

Hawks have an uncanny ability to make opponent's goalie look like 1st star of the night. Hawks, who can never rely on goaltender to keep them in a game, once again were robbed by opposing netminder posting 1st star performance.
This time Chicago squad storming out of the gate, surprisingly outshooting Flyers 11-5 in first period and scoring the first goal of the game only second time this season. Marcel Hossa scored from Hudler and Van Ryn only 6 minutes into the game. However, terrific performance by 1st star of the game Robert Esche kept Flyers in the game in 1st while Brent Johnson gave up a goal from 53 OV Tyler Pock. Inspired by that, Flyers came back in the 2nd, in turn outshoting Hawks 20-6. Score remained 1:1 to 17 minutes of 2nd as Claude Lemieux went to the box for goaltender interference and Steven Reinprecht notched a powerplay marker. 52 seconds later Modin scored the last goal of the game, making score 3-1. In 3rd teams combined only for 15 shots and went scoreless. With 5 seconds to go, Lubos Bartecko tried to make up for terrible -2 performance by injuring Flyer Heins.
Hawks GM put the blame for the lost mainly on top line, as they were terrible without Bulis and Therien and were on the ice for both Flyers ES goals.

LIGHTNING 0 KINGS 4
KINGS RETHRONED
After losing two games over the weekend with GM icarus away in Toronto, the Los Angeles Kings regained form by defeating the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning 4-0 on Monday.
A rested Dan Cloutier was triumphant in his return to LA's net, stopping all 22 shots he faced. (Mika Noronen had played in the two weekend games.)
The Kings attack was relentless, throwing 33 shots towards John Grahame. 17 of those shots came in the first period alone. Jonathan Girard, Jeff Halpern, and Scott Gomez each had a goal and an assist. P.J. Axelsson scored the other goal for the Kings, his first non-shorthanded goal of the season.
The game was a scrappy one, and got especially rough after Tomas Holmstrom injured Mats Lindgren with an errant high stick in the third period.
In the AHL, Manchester defeated Springfield 11-3. Ilkka Pikkarainen's four point night boosted him to the top of the minors scoring leaders, second only to a player who has somehow played more than twice as many games as everyone else.
The Kings face the Islanders tomorrow.

Lubos Bartecko will be suspended for at least 1 game by Hawks GM.
"Going after opponent's player with 5 seconds to go and wounding his eye is not acceptable at all", said Hawks GM. "Bartecko is bubble player and with Bulis back into line-up I was thinking, who of them I should scratch, and decided to give Bartecko a suspension".

VIVE LE VINNY LIBRE!!!
Oilers defeat Rangers 4-2
The Edmonton Oilers are starting to heat up, and won for the 4th time in 5 games under the guidance of new coach & GM Sylvanfan collecting 9 of a possible 10 points in that stretch. The win now has the Oilers in sole possession of the 8th spot in the Howe Conference and rising. The Oilers new top line of Alexander Frolov, Vincent Lecalvalier, and Marian Hossa enjoyed a banner night and were the difference in taking out the Broadway Blue Shirts. Lecalvalier wasted little time making his impact felt with the Oilers as he setup the first two Oiler goals and finished +3 on the evening.
Lecavalier first showed off his tremendous strength to the Rexall Place faithful when he overpowered two Ranger defenders coming off the boards and dropped the puck to Alex Frolov, who then waited out Johan (not Anders) Hedberg and fed a streaking Brian Leetch who blasted home his 4th of the season. Just 5 minutes later Vinny was up to it again luggin the puck around the net, and feeding the puck to Leetch at the point, but this time the savvy veteran sent a great fake shot pass cross ice to an open Adam Foote who slid the puck into the wide open cage to give the Oilers an early 2-0 lead. Brad Richards silenced the crowd late in the first when he one timed home a nifty feed from Ray Whitney to cut the lead in half with only 44 seconds left in the first.
The Oilers restored their two goal lead 12:45 into the second when Marian Hossa was able to get behind the Ranger defence in a 4 on 4 situation and beat a helpless Johan Hedberg. But the Ranger tenders sharp play ensured that the score stay 3-1 after two periods.
Midway through the third the Rangers made it 3-2 when the red hot Keith Tkachuck was able to muscle in a PP goal from a scramble in front of the net. But the Oilers took advantage of an undiciplined double minor to the Ranger LW'er a minute later, and restored the two goal lead on the powerplay when Marian Hossa was able to rip a shot over the left shoulder of Hedberg at the 11:56 mark of the period. The Rangers pressed after Hossa's second of the night but lost all wind from their sails when Cory Stillman punched Vokun after a goalmouth scirmish and took a roughing penalty with only 2:17 left in the third.
The Oilers received two point efforts from 4 players with Hossa potting 2 goals, defenceman Leetch and Foote each tallying a goal, and a helper, and the two assists by Lecavalier. The Oiler top line were all plus 3 on the night, and each registered at least one point. Vokun was solid in the Oilers net stopping 20-22 shots on the night. David Legwand posted an assist in his final game of this tenure with the Oilers, as he and Andre Roy were sent to the Wild for Radek Dvorak, and Samuel Pahlsson. Roy contributed little to the Oilers in tonights game with a -1 and 2 Pim in 11 minutes of ice time. Next up for the Oilers is a trip to Central Florida to visit the Lightning as the Oilers continue a 4 game in 4 night stretch as part of a 10 in 12 night monster chunk of their schedule.

"dropped the puck to Alex Frolov, who then waited out Anders Hedberg and fed a streaking Brian Leetch"
Sounds like Anders Hedberg is Johan Hedberg's father, who attended the game and jumped on the ice to help his son. Frolov "waited out" till security led him off the ice and then fed a streaking Brian Leetch.

 Jeez, how can you tell I watched a bit of that Sweeden/Canada replay game from the 81 Canada Cup where Mike Luit seived out on Anders Hedberg. Thats why Flambers is sooo excited on his web page that KevanGuy did up for him. It's not everyday that Anders Hedberg makes a save!!

BRUINS SCARE CAPS
Boston (AP) - The Bruins were pleased with a steady team effort tonight against the Caps. Yanic Perreault has continued to be super hot on the Power Play. Kovalchuk potted another game winner. The only low point was losing John LeClair day to day to a bruised shoulder.
Next up is the vastly improved Devils. Salo is expected to make the start for the Bruins.

The Predators demolish the underachieving Flames 6-0. Hasek got his 5th shutout of the season and Fedorov had a 3 goals and an assist. Lemieux and Heatley also chipped in with 3 points a piece.
Lemieux is currently leading the club with 4 game winning goals.
The Predator's have their sights on the Avalanche. Watch out.
