I'm looking at upgrading to a newer, higher res digital camera. Does anyone have any familiarity with the Canon A75? pros cons? similar cameras?
I believe its a 3.2 mpixel camera with a 1.8" poly screen, going for $279.00 right now at future shop....seems like a pretty good price

Thanks

A couple of good sites for digital camera reviews are

www.dpreview.com
www.steves-digicam.com

You'll get a very good indication how good/bad the cameras are...

Hope that helps...

I have an A75 and I have no complaints.

There was a post a while back that convinced me on it. (Thanks Kermit.)

Say Cheese!!

This post couldn't have better timing, I just got back from New Orleans and I am heading to the Camera Shop to compare prices. My folks are in Phoenix so if it cheaper, I will get them to buy it.

By the way I will update you all on New Orleans tomorrow when I have sometime.....what a fantastic time I had

I've had an A75 since the summer - great camera! The SLR type features are outstanding!

out of entry range digital cameras that canon A75 is probably the best bang for the buck, along with the best quality. Canon digitals are a little more expensive than other ones, but they are of higher quality and more reliable.

I picked up a Pentax Optio 30 a few weeks ago. Also a good little camera. 3.2 megapixels, etc etc

$50 less than the Canon

Canon all the way. I have an older Canon S30 and am still impressed by the quality of photos I get from it.

Well, doing some pricing research on the net, I just may have to step up to the A95. Usually lists at $500, I found it going for $469.00CA including shipping at camera-warehouse.ca, so a price match +10% at FS or BestBuy would bring that down to Close to the $430.00 mark....not too far off from the A75, with a better resolution....hmmm

I have a Pentax Optio 450 and an older Canon S200, I love my Pentax with the 5x optical zoom but the Canon is very easy to carry and use, also the build quality is the best out of all the major brands out there. I was gonna buy another Canon but most of them uses AA batteries now and I absolutely hate that so I settled for the Pentax, which has a better zoom but slightly worse ergonomics.

Why do you hate AA batteries?

Because they're friggin' expensive and cameras eat them like oysters in a buffet, even the rechargeable ones don't last you that long (per use or lifetime) and it's a hassle having to recharge it every 50 pictures you take. I prefer the blocky lithium-ion rechargeables when it comes to any small electronic devices.

My sister has a A75, she love it.
I just got a A400, I love mine more.
Only complaint she has is that it takes 4 AA batteries and sucks through them like crazy. My A400 takes only 2 AA and seems to be pretty good on them.
Also, I find the A75 to be bulky, its much bigger than my smaller A400.

Over all both are hightly recommended

I bought my A70 mainly because it took AA batteries. I found the model dedicated li-ion batteries to cost more than AA when they needed replacing. And god forbid you lose it or you're toast. With my A70, I can take 350 photos before needing to recharge the batteries. My roomies with the dedicated battery would have no hope in getting close to that.

And if I'm ever in a jam when hiking through the mountains and there's no electrical socket nearby, I can whip out normal AA's.

I have a FujiFilm FinePix A330 and couldn't be happier with it. It has 3.2 mega pixels and 3x Optical Zoom.

I want to get a digital with 10-12x opitical and about a 4+ mega pixel. I know it's going to cost an arm and a leg, but I don't care.
