Just wondering what everyone thinks of the NEW American Basketball Association. Yes this is a revival of the same league in the 70's that battled the NBA. I wanna know if anyone here has any interets in this team, will you attend games, and will the league survive. So far the league looks very stable. They have 30 expansion teams this upcoming season, all with arenas. The Drillers will be playing at the corral. Since Basketball is starting to really grow, I'd expect to see some crowds in the 6000 range. The ABA is doing what the WHA is trying to do in hockey. Both were rival leagues to the big leagues in the 70's, and both ultimatly bowed out. Both leagues are agin now trying to re-establish themselves. Unlike the WHA which looks like a mess in the making, the ABA looks like it might not just work, but survive long time and become a very good league. I know I may have to check this out sometime. never seen live Basketball before!

I wouldn't mind seeing a game... If the quality of players is pretty good I may see more than one game.
I remember going to some Calgary 88's games... Calgary vs YUGOSLAVIA ahahaha! I think Calgary lost the game aswell.

I used to go to 88 basketball game all the time. Loved watching games on the court. The prices were so affordable. The only thing that didn't make sense was the tables on the other end. People would eat meals while they were watching the game. I used to laugh when the basketball would bounce and hit their tables.

I know plenty of people that would probably want to check out some type of pro basketball live. I think it's a new market around here and it just might work. I can't say I like the name too much, exact same one as the Edmonton soccer team, but I do beleive that team in in the toilet now (I think). Should be good to see what happends with this.

Will it survive? I have my doubts when they are expanding with an unrealistic 30 teams. Where are all the players going to come from? Could be some ugly basketball. At least 10 of those teams probably won't make to the 2nd season, but I'm hoping the league does survive. More pro sport teams in Calgary the better.

Hasn't Edmonton had two teams called the Drillers? One from the old NASL days and in the arena soccer league?

I believe Edmonton did, but I'm positive both teams have long since folded. Time to show Edmonton what a real drillers team can do. I predict a playoff berth our first year!

Can't see it working...I don't think the market here is into basketball enough to bother attending. Almost anything outweighs basketball on the average Calgarian's to-do list.
Then again, I might be seeing things totally skewed, simply because I've never identified with the "hip hop" image that the NBA promotes. NBA is as much about how much gold you wear after the game as how many points you put up . I can't see this revival ABA doing things any differently, and that'll be a tough sell in lily-white Calgary.

I might check out a game or two, but for the most part, I'd rather watch chess than basketball.
