Woohoo!!! Got my property assessment value (for taxes) reduced

In July 2008, the town of Okotoks assessed my property at $558,200 and in July 2009 they assessed it at $542,500.

I disagreed with the new assessment value (too high) and got it reduced to $464,000.

Therefore I should see a significant reduction in my property taxes.


Looks like the squeaky wheel DOES get the grease.

If the system worked they wouldn't have tried to gouge me at $542,500.

I suspect that there are a lot of properties out there that are over valued (for tax purposes) but the owners don't complain.

Exactly. I doubt the city is really trying to do it on purpose but if you disagree with your city assesment, fight it. System works.
