What to say to Flames Players?
Hey, I've been around Calgarypuck a lot but haven't posted anything. This is my first post =)
Anyways, I have a question that I hope I could get some answers for.
What do you say to Flames Players when you meet them?
I have a friend who just won a contest and she gets tickets to a Flames game and then she gets to meet one of the Flames player after. The problem is, she has no idea what to say to the player. She has never personally met any hockey players before so she has no idea what to expect. Do they start conversations with you or do you have to ask questions to start one? Are they usually friendly to fans? Also, if the player doesn't seem to talk very much, what could she say that won't make her sound too dumb? Are there any topics in particular that she should talk about or avoid?
I hope this topic isn't too random, but my friend asked me what she should say when she meets the Flame player, but I don't know what to say either so I thought I could get some help here. Thanks =)

Treat them just like normal people, they kinda like that. Ask them about the game, what they like to do in there free time, interests outside of hockey, you know that kinda thing

I think you misunderstood MQS, she won a contest. She isn't looking for a job

A few years back, I bumped into and partied along members of Team Canada during the World Championships in Austria. I talked about a whole bunch of stuff. There was Regehr, Mike Fisher, Redden, Luongo, Turco, Heatley, and Souray. I think most players genuinely like talking and answering "intelligent" hockey questions. Regehr and I talked about the Red Mile, and how the city has always embraced the team. I talked with a bunch of them about the life of a hockey player, travel schedules, if they always wanted to be hockey players growing up, favourite team/player growing up...etc. Non hockey related, ask them about stuff like politics, education, brother and sisters, education (Joe Thornton's older bro's a PhD, and Mike Fisher's younger bro is an Engineer) and current events. I even chatted about the sites they got to see in Austria. Some of them however aren't comfortable answering questions about their personal life or finances, so I stay away from those types of questions

When I met a bunch of them at Cowboys, I chatted with Primeau about his family, Nilsson about what it was like to play here Vs. Florida, stuff like that. As long as you remember that they're people too, you can have pretty good conversations with them.

Years ago I had a couple girls from Slovakia staying with me and they really wanted to meet a certain Flames player who came from that region. It happened (helped that they were model types I guess). Anyways they got a tour and a chance to meet this player. He was quite rude to them, uninterested. I was not there (tall enough to be a model, but male, and I like to eat) so I didn't see it first hand. However another Flames player saw him brushing them off and came over. He took them all over showed them everything. He was funny they said, a perfect gentleman. He took the time to make sure they had a great experience.
Not really on topic but, the second player was Ron Stern.
I met Phaneuf a few weeks ago at Safeway, and just wished him a great season. I was impressed by all the water, sports drinks, and yogurt in his cart. I was thinking, what a healthy fellow. Then as I met him again in another aisle he was choosing which microwave popcorn to buy!

IIRC the only Flames from Slovakia were Ronald Petrovicky and Robert Dome, and they started playing for the Flames long after Stern was gone.

Sorry, I was trying not to reveal who he was. He was from that region, not that country. He was Czech.

The problem is, she has no idea what to say to the player.

Can I have some money?
Seriously, just treat it like anybody you start a conversation with, then just naturally flow intot the hockey questions that you want to ask.
