Default Composite Hockey Stick Help

I am so going to be feeding fotze with this post.

So my wife bought me a one-piece composite hockey stick for my birthday tomorrow. She also got the Stick Butt End plugso I can make the stick the correct length. The feller at the store suggested this method. I want to take care when I put the butt end plug into the stick so that I don't ruin the stick.

It appears as though some heating will be required to get the plug to fit in the shaft. Which is the best method to heat the stick so that I don't break down the stick too much?

I use my stove.
Turn the burner on high and "hover" your stick above it. The glue will melt and you will be able to pull the blade/butt end out.

I believe the best way is a torch if you have access to one.

If its a senior stick, you may not need the butt end (unless you're tall, I guess). Try to minimize the use of the butt end if possible as it screws around with the flex!!!

I am tall. I've always had a hard time finding sticks long enough for me. What concerns me is heating the stick. Does it have adverse effects on the stick? I've heated many o' street hockey blades above the stove before but I thought I heard that heating a composite stick isn't an ideal method... I guess that depends on how you heat it though.

don't use an open flame unless you absolutely have to...if you do, make sure you don't stop that flame unless you want nice scorch marks or worse on it...if you've got a heat gun or ultra-high-powered blow dryer kicking around, use that. it works amazingly well

as for the flex...for every inch you cut/add to a stick, i believe it adds 3 or 10 flex to the stick...i can't remember which though

your best bet would be to take it to the store where you bought it and ask them to do it, they all have heat guns which work best, otherwise i would tell you to use a hair drier. I know the cutting it down makes the stick stiffer, not sure if the plug would increase the flex. Also heat as little of the stick as possible.
Stay away from a blowtorch, these are not like the good old alumminum shafts.

I use a heat gun that I bought from Canadian Tire for 15 bucks. They go on sale from time to time so I recommend getting one to make things easier for you.

I just use the stove. But all the plugs I have found dont fit in properly, just put a piece of tape down the side and around the bottom and you'll be good to go.

Just don't heat it too much and you will be find. keep rotating over stove and keep the stick level or glue will drip out of stick
