Anyone noticed the price of golf equipment going down with the dollar increasing?

Haven't seen a change in prices. For example i've been looking at the Nike Sasquach Sumo driver. Golf Town has it on sale at $249.00, meanwhile Dicks Sporting goods out of Minneapolis has the same driver on sale for $199.00. And since my brother lives in Minneapolis I may get him to buy that driver and ship it to me.

I dont think you can fairly compare Dicks with over 300 location to GolfTown with 30 locations. The buying power of 10X the number of stores does make a significant difference IMO.

With dollar being on par with the US it shouldn't make a difference. Retailers can no longer use the exchange rate as an excuse for why their prices are higher than the US.

I was in Dicks last June and bought a pair of New Balance cross trainers for $49. Here in Canada the same shoe costs around $100. I also checked various other deprtment stores and sporting goods retailers when I was in Minneapolis and that pair of shoes I bought was the same in price as Dicks.

I'm thinking that all the border areas in the US that were once a upon a time a mecca for Canadian shoppers are smiling non-stop these days. This currency situation stays till next spring/summer and they are going to see a HUGE boost in sales. I know back in those days when I use to holiday down at Twin Lakes I'd spend a lot of cash I'd saved up in the Outlet Malls outside of Spokane and at the White Elephant stores in Spokane.

And if the Canadian buck is still worth more come summer time then heading to the States for a holiday is almost a sure thing with me and with many others no doubt. Be coming back with a whole list of things -- including golf clubs!!!

It has nothing to do with the dollar.

Do you honestly think Calloway or whoever will give a big as discount to GolfTown as they do to Dicks when Dicks has the buying power of 300 stores compared to 30. Why does Walmart have lower prices than Zellers - buying power. I agree there is probably some exchange rate shafting but remember that the in store stock was purchased at a different exchange rate than the floating rate. It likely wont be for another couple months before we can truly complain.

Check out the Golf Warehouse online for some smokin deals.

I just got 2 Cleveland hybrid clubs for $80 a piece. Golf Town had them on for $120.

You do have to pay a bit of shipping but it is usually worth it. Especially now at the end of the year they have some really good clearance deals on.
