I was recently introduced to David Cross, and his stand-up comedy, and it's pretty damn funny. Black, black humour, which I like, and kind of raw. Funny stuff.
It got me thinking, there are probably so many great stand-up comedy routines that I've never heard/seen, and many comedians with great material I've never even heard of.
What better place than CPuck to get some suggestions.
Here are some of my favorites...
Obvious ones-
Chris Rock - Any of his 4 routines, but I like Never Scared and Bring The Pain the best
David Cross - The Pride Is Back, It's Not Funny, & Shut Up You F------ Baby
Geroge Carlin - A Place For My Stuff, You Are All Diseased, Complaints and Greivances
Jerry Seinfeld - I'm Telling You For The Last Time
Eddie Murphy - Delerious
Richard Pryor - Live on The Sunset Strip
Denis Leary - No Cure For Cancer
...
I've heard that Bill Hicks, Lewis Black, and Dave Attell are good, have to check them out...

"Dave's not here man" by Cheech and Chong.
No word of a lie I was once riding in the back seat of a car driving around a cemetery looking for a funeral that I/we were late for and "Dave's not here" was playing on the radio and I was laughing so hard that I was crying. It was raining and dreary and a funeral but damn it was funny even in that situation. The "funeree" (person getting buried) would have appreciated me laughing at that time so I didn't break any rules.

That's a good one.
I also like the "Let's Make a Drug Deal" routine.

Did anyone else see Sienfeld live when he came to Calgary about a year and a half ago? That was the most I have ever laughed in one sitting my entire life.

Norm Macdonald's stand up routine is pure gold. I was a fan of his long before he was on SNL.
Brent Butt (Corner Gas guy) is also really really good.

Harland Williams is pretty damn funny to me (he was the Hitchhiker in "Something about Mary"). Goofy lines, goofy delivery, I've seen his stand up a few times and nearly split a gut I was laughing so hard.

Harland Williams - brilliant
Steven Wright - his misdirection comedy gets me every single time
George Carlin - back when he was angry, I just don't find his new stuff to be that funny
Robin Williams/Jonathon Winters - Two brilliant improv comedians, neither of them prepares for a show, they just go out there and do it, with Winters its like being in the eye of the hurricane.
I forget his name, but the stalker/architect from something about Mary - If you've ever seen his show you'd swear he's taken about a hundred uppers and a shot of vodka, funny funny physical comedian

In no particular order.
Rick Mercer - Anything this guy touches is funny.
Sean Majunder - The Poofie!
Derek Edwards - Seen this guy at yuk yuks and my sides were hurting when I left.
Jeremy Hotz - The guy that totally cracks himself up. You can't help but laugh as well.
John Hefferon - Last comic standing winner season 2

Robin William's origin of golf is hilarious
I'm not 'brown', so I don't relate that well to it, but Russell Peters (that's his name, right?) is hilarious

I'm more a fan of comedians than routine. If I like the comedian I try and see them, listen to them as much as possible. Since every routine is different it's hard for me to say I like this the best,
so without adieu, a list of some of my favs:
Glen Foster
Derek Edwards
Bill Cosby
Robin Williams
Carlos Mencia
Chirs Rock
Lewis Black
Stephen Wright
Mike MacDonald
Norm MacDonald
Kathleen Matigan (as seen on the second season of Last Comic Standing, but I liked her before the show)
ok one routine I love, but I don't know much else standup by the guy, Larry Miller. Great actor, and like him on the screen, but standup "5 Levels of Drinking" is so accurate
Jim Carey at Just For Laughs before he his it big was another hilarious routine
I'm told Rick Bronson puts on a hell of a show. He did a routine at my undgrad univeristy this past semester (which I missed ) and apparently he tore the place up. He kept things recent (used World Cup joked, and Canada won the night or two nights before) and had a participant on stage for the last bit. He said into the mic "ok this is the last big, you ###### this up we're sending you to St FX!" (X is UCCB's natural and most hated rival) the place popped big for that one.
Trying to think of some more off the top of my head
(pauses and looks into Comedy folder)
George Carlin, and Jeremy Hotz are good but not my "favs" but I respect and like them.
Tim Steves, and Rick Mercer are great
and I loved the sketch comedy of John Morgan (may he rest in peace)

HE got mad at me in his routine in Halifax!
my dad called my cell from my neighbours, KNOWING WHERE I WAS
I thought it was an emergency
Glen got mad, well worked it into his routine, it was funny but I felt bad.
I e-mailed an apology, he thanked me for the apology, and I was the first EVER to apologize for talking on a cell phone (again thought it was an emergency so I answered) and he called my dad and left a voicemail message asking him not to call me during his routine (at my request)
He's a hell of a comedian, and twice the guy. Go see him, and buy his stuff, he deserves it
