PANTHERS 4 KINGS 2

The Panthers are just starting to heat up. Garon FINALLY put up a decent game and earned the number one star. Jokenin and Martinek both continued their hot streaks.

Jokenin is clearly the hottest player in the league right now and has a 10 game point scoring streak going.

More details to follow!

Senators win the Game of the Week.

Senators win thier 10th game of the season after defeating the Sharks 4-2 today

Backup Goalie Pasi Nurminen got the start. After a scorless 1st period the Sharks started there attack. The Sharks jumped out to a 2-0 lead and went to the 2nd intermission with a comfertable lead.

It was in the 3rd that the Sentors finally broke through Rick Nash scored his first of 2 goals on the day his 3rd of the season almost 5 minutes in.

Unlikely goal scorer Todd Simpson received a gift at the blue line and not knowing what to do with the puck blasted it at the San Joe goal. Somehow it found its way to the back of the net to Tie the game.

Nash then scored his 2nd goal of the game and 4th of the season less than a minute aftwards to take the lead for the Senators.

Captain Joe then rounded out the scoring with his League leading and 13th and goal of the season.

Next up is a game vs the Powerful Thrashers.

Twin City Times
Will Thrills in Wild Win

Pair of Mitchell SH Goals Give Wild Victory

Willie Mitchell is not known for his offensive production at even strength, let alone while killing penalties.

That’s what makes the defensive minded blueliner’s short handed offensive explosion in the Wild’s 4-1 win over Atlanta all the more suprising

Mitchell scored a pair of SH goals 34 seconds apart early in the first period to give the Wild a 2-0 lead over the Thrashers. For a tired and battered Wild squad, the lead allowed them to play a defensive trap for the reset of the game, relying on steady play from all four lines and solid goaltending from Jocelyn Thibault.

Thibault was named the game’s first star, as he stopped 26 of 27 shots he faced. Meanwhile, addition to Mitchell’s short handed heroics, the Wild also received goals from Sami Kapanen and Andrew Brunette.

GM Grant Farhall was pleased with the team’s efforts.

“Atlanta is one of the top teams in the league. To be able to pick up a win against them is huge for us. We are a tired club, but certainly these last two wins have put some wind in our sails. Jocelyn played a great game to us and looked much better than he did in his first start”.

The win allowed put the Wild in second place in the conference and allows them to maintain the lead in the Mikita division. Minnesota now has two days off before playing Toronto on Monday.

Game Notes
-Brendan’s Morrison did not register a point, halting his 10 game point scoring streak. Richard Zednik is on a 6 game point scoring streak.
-Andrew Brunette’s third period goal was his first as a Wild, and first of the season.
-PK specialist Jay Pandolfo and Jan Hrdina assisted on both Mitchell goals.
-The Wild scratched center David Vyborny from the lineup. Although healthy enough to play Farhall felt it was important to give him a night off to fully recover. Robert Reichel was elevated to the third line and veteran Tony Hrkac was inserted into the lineup.
-The Wild’s powerplay had their worst night of the season going 0 for 9, but are still #1 overall in the league.

The Avs needed a hero to keep their streak alive, they have on in Joe Thornton. Captain Joe scored one and set-up the other as the Avs beat the Canadiens 2-1 Friday night to go 10 games unbeaten and win their 7th straight.

Trailing 1-0 in the second period Colorado scored twice in the 2nd through Thronton and Radivojevic with Nylander helping on both goals as the Avs solidified their unlikely position on top of the conference.

Roman Turek was deservedly the first star, winning his 3rd game in as many nights as Colorado joined the more predictable pair of Ottawa and Washington at the top of the CPHL tree on 22 points.

WELL OILED MACHINE UNSHEATHE SABRES
Edmonton Sun

The Oilers won their third consecutive game with a 5-4 OT victory in Buffalo today. After flying cross continent from Vancouver the day before the Oilers again started out sluggish and were burned for a Sabre goal 1:33 into the first period when Bate Battaglia fired home a gratuitous Jani Hurme rebound on a WADE BELAK shot. But as in the previous two games the Oilers were able to rebound from what seems to be a gamely occurance of a soft early goal and nod the score just after the clock passed the midway point of the first period. Patrik Elias fired home a nifty Brian Rafalski pass on the powerplay to even the score and than put the Oilers ahead 2:21 later when he was sprung loose by David Legwand, broke in alone on J.S. Giguere and roofed a backhander on a spendid deke.

The Sabres were able to pull even 4:24 into the second when Ruslan Fedotenko was able to bang home a rebound on a mad scrambel in front of the Oiler net. The lead was short lived as J.P. Dumont was able to take advantage of a poor pivot by Sabre d-man Robyn Regehr and fly down the Right Wing on a semi-break and beat Giguere high to the glove side to restore the Oiler lead. The Oilers went ahead by 2 goals at the 12:47 mark when Brian Rafalski was able to split the seam of the Buffalo defence with a perfect pass that Brian Leetch directed into the Sabre cage.

The third was a different story though as the Oilers attempted to sit on the two goal lead and prepare for tommorrows game against division rival Anaheim. First Scott Niedermeyer cut the lead to 1 goal 13:12 into the final stanza, and than Ruslan Fedotenko capitalized on a Scott Hannan miscue to even the score late in the third on the power play.

Early in overtime Wade Belak caught Marian Hossa with an elbow to the solar plexus and was whistled to the box. After a heated arguement with Kerry Fraser the goofy looking Belak was ejected. Needing only 21 seconds to use the man advantage Patrik Elias faked a shot that froze Giguere and sent a cross ice pass to a pinching Leetch who potted his second of the night for the game winner. The Oilers received three point efforts from both Elias and Brian Rafalski, along with the 2 goal effort from Brian Leetch. David Legwand also pitched in two assists playing on the Oilers top line. Jani Hurme recorded the win in his first Oiler start, but was average at best. Still his presence allowed the Oilers to leave Vokun in Edmonton to rest for tommorrow night's encounter with the Ducks.

The Oilers have now moved into 9th in the Howe confernence one point behind the Jackets and 2 behind the Wings and Sharks. It was the third straight win for the Oilers since Sylvanfan took over as general manager and co-coach. Bobby Schmautz returned behind the Oiler bench but was far less animated than he was in his debut against the Kings on Monday which netted him a one game suspension. Trade rumors still surround the team, but so far nothing has been made official. When asked if this was a ploy to wake his team up Sylvanfan claimed to see Doug Flutie and run out of the room in an eerily similar event to yesterday's post game conference.

BRUINS BITE NUCKS!!!!

Boston (AP) - Friday night the Boston Bruins returned to a form most seasoned GM's will recognize. The Bruins were happy to see everyone who had ice time get at least one point with the exception of Rucinsky, Ward, O'Donnell and McCarty.

GM KevanGuy was short on comments due to the Hip concert taking place the same evening as the game. "Hey, I gotta boogie to the show. It was a good game for us. If you want comments talk to Brian."

It was at this moment that a hush fell over the Bruins dressing. Nothing but a steady drip from a faucet could be heard. Then, as if with divine purpose, a figure appeared through the misty haze of shower steam. A palpable awe had encompassed the crowed reporters. Faint sounds of trumpets could be heard in the distance. The figure drew closer. It moved with the stealth of a cheetah and the grace of a snowflake. An overwhelming sense of serenity and accomplishment filled out lungs. The figure raised his arms out to us. As if to say, "Yes, it may be my point. But, it is everyones point! This point shall outlast all man and all woman that witnessed it. This point shall become greater than any natural wonder of the World!! This point...shall bring all mankind together in spirit and in arms. This point shall never cease!!!! " THE Brian Holzinger emerged from the shower, wrapped in a towel, and with the intensity of a Greek God he shouted "IIIIIIII AMMMMMMM HOLZINGER!!!!!!!!"

Reporters rushed to gather their tape recorders. Holzinger first point in the CPHL this season only happens once a season and, this season, it happened tonight. Unfortunately everyone was unable to get a quote from Brian because question period was over and the dressing room was cleared out.

DUCKS LOOSE THERE WINGS

Detroit makes road kill out of ducks

Detroit Red Wings lead by Vinny Lecavalier went hunting for duck. It was the Wings 4th win in a row. Danil Markov and Lecavalier both with two points and several bone crushing hits made there presence felt all night. Markov now has 8 points in 6 games since being acquired from anaheim earlier this season.

George Laraque and Barrett Jackman both chipped in with there first goals of the season leaving just Mike Commodore as the lone player to not light up the lamp yet.

Wishing to get quote from Coach Guns after the game he seemed to be in a hurry as he was being nagged to death by his wife. "go shower so we can go eat already!"

How Quickly Things Change...

Last week, the Canadiens were walking with a swagger, at the top of the league on a 8 game winning streak. Today the Canadiens lost their third straight, and have fallen to a 7th place tie with the Flyers. The surging Avs rode the overworked Turek to a 2-1 victory. The Canadiens took the play to the Avs outshooting Colorado 30-18; 16-4 in the third period. However, none of the Habs could solve Turek. GM Beerfund had a phone to his ear almost the entire game. Although he reports that he has nothing serious on the go. "Just discussions, we have a few players that we have our eye on. Some GMs seem to be challenge to get a hold of, as phone calls and emails are not returned. But we'll keep on looking. This team was build by trading, and we will tear it apart if need be" said the agitated Beerfund.

Well, if the sim works by having the players I've traded have big games against me, then I'm in a lot of trouble. Yikes!
